What does your current job entail? Is there such a thing as a typical day?
Amy Levin: As an entrepreneur, I have to juggle a lot of different roles within my business. Whether it’s traveling to a campus to host an event with students or sitting in a meeting with a potential brand advertiser in order to coordinate a unique campaign, no two days are the same and each day comes with a challenge.
What is the best part of your job?
AL: I love meeting our Style Gurus! It’s so rewarding to see how enthusiastic they are about CollegeFashionista and the impact the site has on their lives and careers.
As we all know, you’re the founder of CollegeFashionista. How did you come up with the idea?
AL: CollegeFashionista started as a hobby during my senior year at Indiana University and quickly turned into a website with a focus outside of just documenting Bloomington, Indiana fashion. I wanted something like CollegeFashionista while I was at school and felt it necessary for this platform to exist.
What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry when you first started out that you know now?
AL: Have more confidence! This industry can be intimidating, but we are all just people so give a firm handshake and be confident!
What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?
AL: The cream always rises to the top. Be the cream.
What is one mistake you made along the way and what did you learn from it?
AL: There are so many mistakes I made along the way, but each have helped shape my business. My biggest successes have come from failures and understanding why something didn’t go as planned. I started CollegeFashionista as a naïve 22 year-old and have learned so much from these past three years of failing and succeeding.
