On February 14th,  New York’s finest fashion fanatics lined up infront of NYC’s Rubin Museum to see Josie Natori’s latest collection. This presentation did not disappoint: the versatile separates and out-of-this-world dresses only gave us some more things to fall in love with on Valentine’s Day. Her Campus was so lucky to be invited and I’m honored to be giving you this collection’s play-by-play.

As each model descended from the museum’s spiral staircase- I know, so 31 Rue Cambon– I couldn’t help but mentally style a collegiette version of each look. While this collection was filled to the brim with trends and inspiration, I’m going to narrow it down to the top three trends to look out for this fall, according to Natori.

Random, but how fabulous are these shoes? I was really close to taking them right off the models!

Opposites Attract!
Since the days when we were fashionistas-in-training, we’ve been told to make sure everything, like our colors and fabrics, matched perfectly. Natori urges us to break the rules by mixing textures. One of my favorite looks from this collection included a gold, sequin lace skirt as well as a cozy, yarn tunic. How effortlessly chic does that sound? Other looks also mixed opposing textures, like leather and cashmere. While these pairings may seem random to the “stick-to-the-rules” type of fashionista, this fun play on texture adds that dash of luxury every stylish girl craves. Not to mention it helps make our personal style seem more original. What’s so cool about this trend is that we have everything we need in our closet. Next time you’re in a styling rut, try pairing your cozy cashmere with that “weekend only” sequin skirt. With and outfit like this, you’ll be your campus’ style expert.

Oriental Impress
Okay, fashionistas, be honest: even when you were five, you were a little jealous of that kimono Marty sported in Grease. Or was I the only kindergartener obsessed with Grease? Regardless, Asian fashion has inspired various designers, like Armani Privé’s Fall 2011 Couture collection. Natori  was also inspired by the eastern hemisphere. “I turn often to Asia for inspiration, and my Fall 2012 collection was inspired by Mongolia and the drama of that untamed land,” Natori wrote in the program. From gorgeous florals to occasional sequins, Natori’s collection gives us some of the fiercest kimonos on the market. But what if you don’t necessarily have a Natori-worthy budget? No worries, collegiettes: you can find a stellar kimono at your local vintage store.

Dark Beauty
Natori’s collection serves as yet another reminder: dramatic makeup is in! Each model sported a super dark purple lip and a brilliantly detailed updo. Interested in this trend? Who isn’t! To rock a gothic glam lip, try Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick in Black Cherry. Just be warned, fashionistas: this look may leave people thinking you’re the Black Swan. To make an easy- and chic- transition, use this lip in moderation and then up the frequency.

Does the name Natori sound familiar to you? Well it should! Josie Natori has a whole lifestyle empire. As the CEO and Founder, Natori has home, eyewear, lingerie, and even fragrance branches that make up The Natori Company. She’s even had two collaborations with Target. After Jason Wu and Missoni, we know how amazing that opportunity is. To add to an already long list of accomplishments, this collection gives us a new perspective of glamour that we’ll never forget.
