To be perfectly blunt, I’m obsessed with fur. Fur jackets, vest, hats… it’s a fashion must. In my mind, there’s something undeniably effortless and fabulous about throwing some fur into an originally bland mix. And now that fur is a top trend for fall? No words, fashionistas, can explain my excitement. But in a world where sweatpants are a trend- yes, sweatpants are unfortunately a college trend- how can we look chic in fur without looking like we’re talking a dreaded walk of shame from the night before? No worries, I got you covered.
The most important thing to remember is that fur is fun. Turn it into a mantra if you need, but fur is fun. Wearing a fur jacket with a LBD will having you looking like Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate: way too evening wear and way too old. We are young so let’s make fur as fun as we can! That being said, please don’t wear fur in crazy colors unelss you’re attending a themed party. We want to be viewed as chic, not “that girl with the crazy coats from my lecture.” Darker colors, like maroon, can be chic; however, no neons please! Here are some styling tips and tricks that will have you looking fierce in no-time:
- Rocking a fur vest with a jeans and a simple button down, a la Kourtney Kardashian, will leave you feeling youthful and fantastic. Similarly, throwing a fur jacket over jeans and a simple tee will give you the same effect.
- There’s no need to invest hundreds of dollars in such a trendy piece; however, make sure the fur doesn’t look too fake. That’s possibly worse than wearing neon fur!
- If you’re feeling super fierce, try a leopard jacket. A little bit of leopard goes a long way, so make sure to keep your hair and makeup looking natural and effortless. If you’re getting ready for a night out, however, try a red lip with a leopard jacket: super glam.
- Styling a fur vest with a mini skirt doesn’t have to be a party look! If you pair an oversized fur vest with a solid mini, a long sleeved shirt, and dainty bracelets, you’ll be the chicest girl on campus. For the evening, spice it up with a sequined skirt.
- One of my favorite winter acessories is my handy dandy fur hat. I love this one because the knit crown makes the hat less intimidating and more wearable. Although this is a more of a winter must-have, those cold fall days may call for a cozy hat!
The most important styling trick when it comes to fur is confidence. You’ll look silly if you feel silly about wearing fur. Just strut your stuff down campus and soon enough, everyone will be sporting some fur!
