I have a confession: I’m absolutely helpless when it comes to eyebrows. I’ve never been great at shaping them or maintaining them, and can never tell if I’m doing it right. And when it comes time for a touchup, I usually just ask my mom for a little help.

So when I read about Benefit Cosmetics’ Brow Bars, I knew I had to check one out! The Brow Bars are adorable, one stop beauty shops located in department stores (Macy’s, ULTA, Bloomingdale’s and Belk) and they specialize in brows and makeup. You can just stop in (no appointment necessary!) and get a quick service in just a few minutes.

When I read about the Brow Bars, I knew you’d all be interested in hearing about them! First off, what a cute concept, right? And second, I’m pretty sure that a lot of other gals share my brow helplessness. Or at least, I hope I’m not alone here!

So, curious as I was, I headed into the Macy’s in Boston this weekend and met up with Seana Weiss, the Lead Aesthetician at the Brow Bar. I instantly fell in love with the Bar’s atmosphere: It was cute and cozy-looking and I was excited to try it out. Plus, I’d never waxed my eyebrows before, so it was something new to try out.

Before my waxing, Seana touched up my makeup a little! This is a standard practice at the Brow Bars: you get a complimentary five-minute make-upper in addition to your service. Seana used some of Benefit’s most popular products and I was so happy with the results!

Then it came time for the moment of truth. I headed over to the seating area where the waxing would take place and we got started. Let’s just say that it was the perfect time for a touchup. I’d let my brows grow out a little and I thought they looked pretty bad, but I guess they weren’t so bad. Seana actually asked me who shaped my brows, because apparently they looked pretty good. (Way to go, mom!)

My sister had came along and was watching the whole time, just waiting for me to flinch or squirm. But flinch or squirm I did not! Seana did a great job with my eyebrows and made the process quick and painless. Well, no waxing is painless obviously, but it was only a quick little pinch and it was all in the name of beauty.

My brows looked polished and fresh, but they still had my natural arching and shape to them, and it was a look that was uniquely me. This is part of what’s great about the Brow Bars: They create a perfectly arched brow that’s right for your face shape, and not necessarily for the latest “trend” in brows.

Plus, it’s a quick and easy experience and is cheap too! Prices vary by location, but you can get a brow service for a mere $20; not too bad.

Here I am with Seana, all happy after my pampering! It turns out I’m not the only one who loved her Brow Bar experience! Benefit performs a brow arch every minute somewhere in the U.S. and has over 200 Brow Bar locations in the U.S.

After my waxing, I asked Seana to share a few brow-grooming tips with all of you! Here’s what she had to say:

  1.  “Less is always more.” When grooming your own eyebrows, it’s easy to get  tweezer-happy, so stand back away from the mirror and take a look at your work. Stop and assess what you’re doing and you can prevent any brow disasters.
  2. “Always follow your natural brow arch.” Just like we’re all born with a certain body type, we’re all gifted with a unique brow arch. Don’t try to fit into an arch-type that doesn’t fit your face.
  3. “Thin will never be in.” You know those old women that have to pencil in their eyebrows? Yeah, you don’t want to end up like that. Don’t over-tweeze because your eyebrows could grow in thinner and you don’t want that! Your brows are unique and really give your face character, so don’t make them too thin.

Benefit Brow Bars offer the following services:

  • Brow arching
  • Brow tweeze
  • Brow and lip wax
  • Lip
  • Chin
  • Lip and chin
  • Lip, chin, and sides
