Lose the Freshman 15: Making Mini-Goals

Hello again collegiettes! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend and stuck to their Drop 10 plan! As I mentioned Saturday, I spent the weekend in Atlanta with friends attending some amazing free concerts. I knew it was going to be difficult, but being surrounded by concession stands of deep-fried foods and booze made me think about how starting this journey fell at an inconvenient time for me. Then I realized that THAT is my problem. Committing to being healthier and losing weight isn’t always going to be the most convenient option. I know sometimes I’m going to want to crawl into bed after a long day instead of going to the gym, or to eat what everyone else is eating instead of taking the time to find lighter, healthier options. But we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do, ladies — stay focused and keep with it!

That being said, I did my weekly weigh-in yesterday and I’m happy to say I’m already a little bit lighter! Even weighing in at night after dinner (instead of in the morning like I should have…oops) I was still nearly two pounds lighter than I was when we started this shindig a week ago. Seeing progress being made has me pumped up for the week and ready to lose some more.

Although it seems obvious, I’ve noticed that I feel a lot better throughout the day following SELF’s Drop 10 diet than I did beforehand when I relied heavily on fast and processed food. I’ve also been drinking a ton of water. I haven’t mentioned this yet, but I, Morgan Johnson, am a Diet Coke addict. In the past week I’ve had maybe three Diet Cokes total compared to my usual two a day. Drinking so much water is helping to wean me off of it and I feel like my skin is starting to look better too – double whammy! Making small goals for myself, like committing to drinking more water than soda each week, is much less intimidating than thinking about the 8-week program as a whole. So, what goal are you going to commit to reaching this week?

Xo,
