Whether you’re currently dating someone, newly single, or in an awkward friends with occasional benefits relationship, you can relate to the College Dating Scene. Let’s face it, before college started we figured college was the place to find the love of our life, but as time has droned on we’ve discovered that is unfortunately not the case. Rather than finding prince charming, you run into a lot of frogs in royal clothing. Some guys who just want sex, and the nice guy you continually put in the friendzone because you “just don’t like him like that.” So I decided to take it to the streets, and rather than doing my mad rap skills, I interviewed a handful of students and asked them various questions about college dating.Â

Meredith*, who is currently a freshman, is in a relationship and has revealed it’s not as sunshine and rainbows as everyone expects. “It’s difficult. Having to make time for school, work, and a boyfriend is hard. I expected it would work out well since we went to high school together, however, it still has many complications. Having a boyfriend can also stop you from trying to make other friends because you have a bf to hang with instead. I think the hardest part of dating in college is the fact that this is a time to find yourself and live life. Trying to find yourself and make crazy decisions is hard when you’re with someone else. Plus, you or your boyfriend change. You or your boyfriend may not be the same person you were when you started dating.” Interesting, but hey, they’re nearing their second year anniversary so CLEARLY it is possible!
Carly* classifies herself as single “af.” She explains that, “My college dating experience has been crap. I expected to meet my husband by now. The hardest part is that the cute guys are the douchebags. But, the best place to meet singles is definitely Tinder!” You heard it ladies! Forget prince charming. Hit up Tinder!
Now, to hear from the males on campus! Kenneth* is currently single. “I haven’t dates in college yet. My last relationship was in high school. The best place to find babes is at Panama City Beach,” he says with a cheesy grin. Kenneth* is currently a junior majoring in engineering.
Mitchell* has a bit of a different approach to dating. “I’m single. Every relationship I’ve been in during college, I have realized every girl is afraid of commitment. I honestly expected better.” The best place to meet singles- eharmony.com.” Mitchell* is a sophomore at the University of Memphis. He’s actually a study buddy of mine.Â
Well, that is all I have for this week ladies and gents! If you enjoyed this article based on relationships and dating, feel free to comment for further similar stories. Hope this helped ya’ll out. See you on campus gal pals :-)
