Top Winter Fashion Items 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

It’s that time again, ladies!

As the temperature drops and the days sadly become shorter, it’s very tempting to throw on a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt and call it a day. Sure, the sweats are comfortable, and yes, you won’t freeze on your walk to class, but personally I don’t feel truly happy with myself unless I make the extra effort and at least attempt to dress nicely. That’s why I compiled a list of trendy (and common sense) winter items for winter 2012.

The Baggy Sweater

I’ve noticed this trend both around campus and on the streets of Boston. Paired with leggings or skinny jeans, the baggy sweater is both a fashion statement and a comfortable outfit. Add a scarf or wear leather boots to dress it up and BOOM! An outfit that is not only fashionable but also warm and comfortable!

Scarves

Scarves can be considered a staple throughout the year but are now especially appropriate as the temperature drops. Use one to add a pop of color into your ensemble – a plain outfit can be immediately reenergized by throwing on a brightly colored scarf.  Pretty inexpensive and available almost everywhere, scarves are a fun and easy way to revamp your winter style. And to top it all off, it’ll keep you warm as you trek to your classes!

The Winter Hat

Winter hats have always been a necessary part of a winter outfit, from your days as a youth throwing snowballs to the current day as you walk to the dining hall for lunch during a snowfall. Gone are the big bulky hats that our moms used to throw on us, replaced with the cute and stylish hats that are a necessity to every girl’s wardrobe. Use them like the scarves to add a pop of color to your wardrobe and protect your ears from the fierce winter chill!

Long Winter Coats

This fashion statement has been seen growing over the years with the reemergence of the classic trench coat. These longer winter coats are not only stylish, but can also be warmer since the coat covers more of your body, and you don’t have to worry as much about the falling snow hitting your outfit. Pair with leggings or skinny jeans and a floppy hat to complete the look. If you’re especially daring, grab a coat that’s lined with faux-fur and walk your way to class in warmth and in style!

Boots

Boots are the classic closet staple that never go out of style. Whether you put on a pair of Uggs, cute rain boots, moccasins, fur slippers, or short ankle boots, you’re guaranteed to look trendy as you make your way around school. Not only are they stylish but they’re also extremely comfortable and practical – no need to fear frostbite with a toasty pair of boots on!
