For many collegiettes pursuing Greek life, the second they step on campus their first semester, they’re thrown right into the recruitment process. While it can be exciting joining your new sisterhood right away, fall rush can be overwhelming during the difficult transition into college. At the same time, it can be frustrating to wait until second semester to find your home in a sorority. The wait can be worth it, though, because there are definitely benefits of spring rush to be thankful for!
1. No need to worry about beating the heat.
If fall rush falls on the last weekend of August, as it does in many schools, you’ll need to be a pro to keep the heat from messing with your look. Between melting makeup, frizzy hair, and unwanted sweat stains, you’ll need to stock up on blotting wipes, hairspray, and especially deodorant. While a spring rush might mean bundling up in sweaters and scarves, it’s much easier to layer up than to try to find shade in a heatwave. 2. You’ve already adjusted to college life.
During the hours of conversation with initiated sisters, you’re going to need things you have in common to talk about. Instead of only being able to talk about what you were involved in in high school, you’ll be able to bond over what activities you’re involved in at college. Knowing the campus and all the unique traditions and habits of your school can make small talk easier and more natural for both you and the sorority sisters!
3. There’s more time to figure out if sorority life is for you.
Fall rush can leave you with no time to decide if Greek life is for you, and you might feel like you’re entering recruitment with no idea of what you signed up for. Spring rush gives each chapter time to hold open houses and recruit girls to rush. By the time recruitment rolls around, you’ll already have an idea of what being a sorority girl entails and whether or not it’s something you want to get involved in!
4. You’ve had time to get excited for Greek life.
After attending rounds of open houses, stalking your friends at other schools who have already gone through rush, and scrolling through Pinterest boards dedicated to Greek life, you’ll be counting down the days until formal recruitment! Not only will this make the experience more enjoyable for you, but your enthusiasm as a whole will show during the process. And the best part is, at the end of recruitment, you’ll have a new sisterhood to call home!Â
