There are now only a handful of days until my least favorite holiday. That’s right ladies, I am a Valentine’s Day Scrooge. Now, listen—it is not because I find the combination of red and pink repulsive (which I do), or the fact that the heart-shaped boxes of chocolate that you get at the grocery store taste disgusting (which they do), it is simply because, for some reason, the universe seems to be shoving my singleness in my face.
Don’t get me wrong—364 days a year, I am stoked to see all the cute couples walking around campus. But when February 14 arrives, not so much. So instead of Pinteresting the day away feeling sorry for yourself, here are some fun things to do on Valentine’s Day for the single girl!
1. Binge on your favorite foods with your single friends. Have everyone bring his or her favorite dish and spend the day vegging out with some Netflix!
2. Have a girl’s day—think mani/pedis, lunch, shopping, and spoiling yourselves.
3. Bake cupcakes with sprinkles—because, let’s be honest, nothing is better than sprinkles.
4. Go on an adventure. If the weather permits, bundle up and go to a park that you’ve never been to. There are tons of beautiful parks in Cincinnati—so peaceful! Or, head to the Cincinnati Museum Center and spend the day exploring the endless exhibits. Whatever you decide to do, get out of your comfort zone and go on an adventure.
5. Take a yoga class. This is self-explanatory. Whether you go solo or with friends, it’s the best way to relax, clear your mind and focus on yourself.
6. Visit a local animal shelter. Who needs a Valentine when there are animals in the world? Spend some time loving on our furry friends who need loving the most.
7. Pass out Valentines to random people. Make a few homemade Valentines and hold onto them until you see someone who could use it. That old man eating alone? Give one to him. A simple, random act of kindness could brighten someone’s day—and yours too.
Remember, you are not defined by your relationship status. The perfect man or woman is out there, so be patient! For now, Valentine’s Day is just another day—so go out there and own your singleness.
