5 of the Most Underrated Fictional Characters of All Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

1. Severus Snape, Harry Potter

Easily one of the most underrated characters of all time, how could Snape not top our list? Through every twist and turn, J.K. Rowling tried to make us hate him or see him as evil, but all along, he was working for the greater good. Not to mention, his undying love for Lily made us swoon.

2. Dopey, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Dopey’s lighthearted and kind nature made us fall in love with him from the very beginning, but what most people don’t realize is that he isn’t afraid to go first. Maybe it’s partially due to his dopey nature, but had he not gone into the house first, the other dwarfs may not have followed. I think it’s safe to say that without Dopey, the tale or the movie would not have actually happened.

3. Rubeus Hagrid, Harry Potter

Hagrid is always the one doing the dirty work. He tells Harry and his friends all of the things he shouldn’t, but who couldn’t love such a big goofball? Never failing to make us smile, his obvious love of animals just makes us love him even more. He is one of the bravest and loyal characters that you will find in Rowling’s series, putting his life on the line for both Harry and Dumbledore, without them having to ask. And when he got promoted to professor? Don’t pretend you didn’t cheer relentlessly.

4. Becky, Finding Dory

Where do I even start? Becky was made fun of, joked about, and everyone had such little faith in her! When it came down to it, Becky was the true hero in the movie. Without Becky, the plot would not have progressed, as she is the one who brought Nemo and Marlin where they needed to be to find Dory!

5. Anastasia, Anastasia

Not only is she beautiful, but she has her own movie! No one ever thinks to mention this heroine when talking about strong princesses. Also, she was the first “strong” princess and an incredible role model for young girls.
