Christmas is coming closer and closer and what better way to celebrate the festivities than by decorating your room. Whether you live in a house or student accommodation, we have loads of ideas for you. Firstly however try putting on some Christmas music to really get the festive spirit going. Maybe even have a few cheeky mince pies ready for afterwards.
Student Halls:Â We all know the Christmas tree is one of the main centre pieces to a house so do not get upset that you cannot have a huge Christmas tree while living in student halls. This year why not try decorating miniatures?
- The Ceiling: Decorate with paper snowflakes, fishing lines or Christmas lights in the shape of Santa Claus to create a snowy grotto look.Â
- The Windows: Hang glittery snowflakes from your curtain rod so they can sparkle in the sun. Try spraying on glitter or fake snow to the corners to give an authentic look. A nice finish would be an Evergreen garland hung across the top of the window.Â
- The Bed: Get some cute Christmas pillows (Primark has some nice ones) matched with a thick throw. Add a few soft blankets to add an extra cosy finish.
- The Door: To round it off, give everyone a warm welcome by decorating the door. Stick a wreath, tinsel or some Christmassy sign on your door.
Student House:
- The Staircase: One of the best parts of decorating in a house is the staircase; it is the first thing your friends will see when entering your house so use your imagination to create a warming atmosphere. Wrap garlands around the banister and add bells or bows to create a little sparkle.
- Mirrors/Shelves: Hang fragrant decorations or garlands around the mirrors, shelves or other furniture to spruce up every room. And of course don’t forget Mistletoe, a inter classic.
- Outside: Why not try a festive door mat? Create those festive vibes from the moment you leave or enter the house. Lanterns are also a lovely sight to see when returning from those cold winter walks back from campus.
- Dining Room: Tie painted pinecones to wide ribbons and drape them over the back of your chairs. Try placing cinnamon scented candles all over the house and light them whenever you feel the need for a Christmas shot.
If you want to mix up the traditional red and green Christmas theme why not try decorating with a vintage theme?
- The motto is: more the merrier, especially when it comes to the tree. Add depth to the tree by stringing every inch with white lights and embellish the illuminated base by mixing metallic colours white mercury-glass balls and other vintage ornaments in whites and cream colours.
Or for a zesty Christmas colour scheme:
- Use bright, contrasting colours like turquoise and pink to give your holiday decor a bold look. Pink ribbon wraps, large boxes covered in patterned turquoise paper or an urn brimming with pink dresses up the bottom of the Christmas tree.
So enjoy and start decorating so you can really look forward to the nicest season of the year.
