Going to college without ever experiencing a relationship before can make anyone feel a little naĂŻve and behind on the times, especially not knowing what to expect when you finally find yourself in one. Your brain can get a little overwhelmed with emotions and feelings that have never taken over your body and mind before. On top of this, multiple irrational and spontaneous spouts of thought-vomit will come crashing into your mind during this span of time because in all honesty, relationship virgin or not, no one actually knows what they are doing when it comes to their feelings.Â

1. When do I mention this to my parents?

Is right away too weird? I’m just really excited and want to tell them. Wait – what if they want to meet him? I’m not ready for that kind of social interaction yet.
2. So what do I refer to him as?

My boyfriend? A boy who is more than just a friend? My person? This is all so tedious; it reminds when I accidently called my teacher “Mom” in front of my class and completely freaked out.

I hope he knows that he can’t expect me to always look presentable, because I would live in my PJs and bed hair if it were socially acceptable.
5. What are his feelings about us?

Are they more than mine? Less than mine? About equal? I don’t like this guessing game.
6. When did I become one of those girls that got so giddy over a guy?

I used to make fun of those people, and now look. What’s happening to me??

It’s just like talking to one of your best girlfriends… except for the fact that you more than occasionally kiss their face, a lot.

Who puts “In A Relationship” on their profile first? Me? Him? The struggle is too real.Â
11. Saying everything is “highly enjoyed” or “really liked” because the idea of using the word “love” makes you feel paranoid that they think you’re referring it to them.

I might be overthinking this right now, but to me it makes sense… right?
12. When is it acceptable for them to sleep in my bed?

By that, I mean platonically (well… for now).
13. Is the feeling of “butterflies in your stomach” supposed to last this long?

It doesn’t feel natural, it’s also kinda nice, but then again I could also puke; so many feels are happening at this moment!

All in all, relationships are confusing (as are feelings), but if it’s with the right person, it’s worth it. Enjoy!
