When you first get to your dorm, it feels amazing to have a place to call your own. But as much as we love our dorms, by the end of the year there are definitely some things you’re okay saying goodbye to.
1. Your 12 x 14 room has definitely come to feel a tad small over the year.
2. The fluorescent lighting in that awful bathroom you share. You look better than that, we promise. Fluorescent lights favor no girl.
3. And while we’re at it, sharing that bathroom with who knows how many other girls.
You’ve seen all those girls at their worst, and you’ve fought with them for the good shower.
4. As much as you love your roommate, it’d be nice to have a bit more privacy and personal space.
5. Some dorms don’t have Wifi or AC.
It’s a miracle we even survived.
6. Those really loud girls in the dorm right above your room.
Okay, we get it. You like “Blank Space.” It’s 3 a.m. on a Monday. Goodnight.
7. The showers. No matter how good of a job the lovely custodians do, you always feel a little sad knowing you have to slip on your shower shoes and go use that shared, cramped shower.
8. All of those mandatory meetings for your dorm.
Even if it’s a fun activity, something about the word “mandatory” makes you want to run away.
9. Every “fire hazard” ever. How am I supposed to live my life without this extension cord? And let’s be honest, life is much better with a candle or two.
10. While we’re at it- the rules against microwaves, toasters, and the like.
As college students, it is our job- no, our duty– to eat Ramen and mac ‘n cheese. Are we really expected to leave our rooms to make it? As if.
11. The complete lack of closet space.
How are you supposed to be ready for those four-season weeks when you’ve got a Barbie-sized closet?
12. The twin-XL beds.
Especially if you have it raised to fit a fridge or desk under. It’s a miracle that you haven’t fallen out of it yet or injured yourself trying to get in.
But as often as we like to complain about our dorms, we know we’ll miss it. A lot of memories were made in that tiny space, and it’ll always hold a special place in your heart.
