As a tall blonde girl whose wardrobe consists mainly of Lululemon, my knowledge and love of hip-hop is sometimes called “impressive,” but mainly “surprising,” “excessive,” and “concerning.”
It all began when I used to listen to Ludacris in the third grade. I don’t know exactly what was wrong with me, how I got access to Ludacris’ music in 2003, or what my negligent parents were up to while this was happening. Regardless, my love for hip-hop was real, and this love only grew stronger. When I was 17, I saw Nicki Minaj in concert and my eyes swelled with actual tears of joy and awe. I now spend my time perusing Soundcloud, reading Complex, sleuthing Spotify, and consulting a small network of hip-hop nerds who I call my friends, and it’s safe to say that I have a Whole Lotta Lovin for the genre. Even though I tend to listen the same song on loop until I hate it, these songs have withstood the test of compulsive replaying.
Here are a few of my favourite moost-boosting and fun hip-hop and R&B songs of the moment, ranked from rage to chill. You can hire me to DJ your parties and pay me in snacks and compliments.Â

I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) by Young Thug, Jamie XX, and Popcaan
General consensus among my friends is that “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” is an instant mood enhancer.
Â
Gangsta Walk (SNBRN) Remix by Nate Dogg
Nate Dogg is the late hip-hop legend who most recently brought us “Shake That,” which was the stuff of my parent’s nightmares during my youth, alongside Eminem. This house remix of “Gangsta Walk” is the perfect pump-up song.Â
Party Bus by Madeintyo and Royce RizzyÂ
This song had me Googling party bus rentals in the greater Montreal area.Â
Â
This bouncy beat had me like:Â
Â
Drop that Kitty by Ty Dolla $ign ft. Charli XCX, and Tinashe
If the title of the song didn’t sell you on this one, its intense catchiness and the combination of Ty Dolla $ign, Charli XCX, and Tinashe, will have you dropping it lower than you could have ever imagined.Â
Â
Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh) by Rich Homie Quan
Get in your car, roll down the windows, and play this song. Thank me later.Â
Â
Actual pic of me in the club when Westside plays:
Wanderlust (Pharrell Remix) by The WeekndÂ
An up-beat, non-dark song by The Weeknd. It’s like he heard our prayers.Â
Â
Blow My High by Kendrick LamarÂ
A repetitive and dance-y Kendrick song you can sing along to is always a good time.Â
Â
Uber Everywhere (Travi$ Scott Remix) Â by MadeintyoÂ
Travi$ brought his Midas touch to Madeintyo’s “Uber Everywhere” – just try not to bob your head along to that ~beat~.
Â
No Hook ft. Quavo by Lil Yachty
Lil Yachty’s “No Hook” features Quavo, member of Atlanta-based rap trio Migos, who consistently kills it.Â
Â
This song just oozes with good vibes.
Â
I can’t endorse the lyrics on this one, but it’s mellow, easy to listen to, and might be about love in some kind of derogatory hip-hop kinda way.Â
