Your childhood wasn’t complete if you didn’t watch Disney Channel Original Movies, better known as DCOMs. DCOMs were the one thing that everyone looked forward to every month! You would run to the tv the second that your clock hit 8 p.m. It was also the one time that you begged your parents to let you watch tv for a whole two hours. Below are ten DCOMs that everyone should have seen when they were kids!
1. Halloweentown (1998)
Although this movie normally only aired during Halloween, it was a great movie for year-round. Every girl wanted to be Marnie and have a cool grandma who had to take a bus ride through the air in order to get home. Luckily, we got two equally great sequels after this, Halloweentown ll: Kalabar’s Revenge and Halloweentown High. We also got a fourth movie, Return To Halloweentown, but we choose to ignore this one because they thought they could replace Kimberly Brown with Sara Paxton and no one would notice. We definitely noticed Disney Channel!
2. High School Musical (2006)
If you say that you didn’t have a crush on Troy Bolton, then you are lying. Troy Bolton is the reason you fell in love with Zac Efron and the whole High School Musical franchise. The signing and the dancing is what made us all fall in love with Troy, Gabrielle, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad, Taylor, and Kelsi. The best part is that we got two movies after this, the third being released in theaters. Once a wildcat, always a wildcat!
3. Stuck In The Suburbs (2004)
This movie was every girl’s dream! Who didn’t want to accidentally swap phones with their number one celebrity crush and in the end become great friends with them?!?! This movie was equally funny and entertaining. Danielle Panabaker and Brenda Song were living every teenage girl’s dream and it never got old!
4. Pixel Perfect (2004)
First of all, Phil of the Future was in it and if he wasn’t one of your first crushes, then who are you?? How could you not be attracted to a guy who was cute and smart enough to build his own personal rock star?? This movie also made you want to go out and start your own girl group!
5. Smart House (1999)
Smart House was a great movie that set house standards so high that you were no longer happy with your basic home. After this film came out, everyone wanted a house where you could talk to it and they would have just the right response. There may have been a couple of glitches with the house that may have lead to a tornado occurring in the living room, but in the end everything worked out.
6. The Cheetah Girls (2003)
The Cheetah Girls are the reason you believed you would end up being a rock star. Your mom may have even caught you a couple of times jamming out to the soundtrack in your room. It’s all right, we’ve all been there. It was completely normal and a part of growing up for sure! And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, they went to Barcelona! We’re cheetah girls cheetah sisters.
7. Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire (2000)
This is the reason you were convinced that vampires really did roam the earth. This movie scared the crap out of you back in the day, Disney Channel even decided to release it on Friday the 13th in October. They knew that this movie would become a halloween classic and boy were they right. On the bright side, because of this movie you now know how to defeat a vampire if they were to ever make an appearance.
8. The Thirteenth Year (1999)
This movie made you want your 13th birthday to come as soon as possible, in hopes that you would become a mermaid. Maybe your parents weren’t telling you the whole truth of where you came from. However, that never happened and you just ended up disappointed. After this movie came out, I was truly convinced that mermaids were out there!
9. Starstruck (2010)
I mean a movie with Chad Dylan Cooper, how could you not love it!?This was another DCOM that made you believe anything could happen and that maybe one day your favorite singer would accidentally hit you in the face with a door. I mean anything can happen, right? I’m still waiting for Liam Hemsworth to hit we with a door and take me on an awesome adventure around LA.
10. Double Teamed (2002)
This movie would you want a twin and also be amazing at basketball! You were drawn in by the storyline and you decide to stay once you realized how dramatic this movie was. At first you hated Nicky, but then they became friends. Then, you didn’t like their dad, but you soon realized that he was just being protective. This movie had great inspiration and was a terrific sports film.
