It’s safe to say that if you’re reading this, you are probably engaging in some form of procrastination. Don’t feel like opening up a Word doc for that 10-page research paper? Can’t bring yourself to finally start your laundry even though you’re down to your second to last pair of clean underwear? Refuse to even get out of bed? We’ve all been there and finals season is no different.
So that’s why I’ve spent hours selflessly browsing Pinterest and compiling the three crafts that will give you the perfect study break to take your mind off of finals. After a long day spent hunched over a textbook in a Howie-T cubicle or when your hand is cramping from scribbling an essay that will make you never want to see a Blue Book again, a relaxing hour of crafting is exactly what you need.
1. State Canvases
This super easy craft is perfect for decorating your suite or house next year. Not only will they remind you each of home, but they can be customized with funny sayings or song lyrics to give each one a unique twist. This is a great roommate bonding activity if you are all equally crafty but more likely than not, one or two artistically inclined artistically inclined individuals will end up saving the canvases from turning in to glitter-filled disasters. Full disclosure: I am normally the one whose craft turns in to the hot mess.
2. Bottle Crafts
Whether it’s soda bottles, mason jars or other adult beverage containers that might be lying around, bottle crafts are a fun and cheap way to decorate your house or dorm. Pinterest has a ton of great idea, from painted bottles to vases to wall hangings. When you’re decorating on a budget like most of us are its great to reuse every day items that you might otherwise just toss in to the recycling without a second thought.
3. T-Shirt Canvases
If you don’t have a bunch of free t-shirts stashed somewhere in your room I have a hard time believing you are actually a Tulane student. Especially at the beginning of the year, it seems as if every event comes with some sort of free apparel and if you’re anything like me, you insist on keeping these shirts with the belief that will come in handy someday. So for all of the other low-level hoarders like me, I’ve finally found the opportunity to put these t-shirts to good use. All you need is a canvas (this is a great chance to use up the ones you started and never finished or ruined beyond being able to salvage) and some tacks and you’re good to go with a quick craft!
