Netflix recently announced that it would be reviving the popular television show Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls was a popular television show that ran on The WB from 2000-2007. It was known for its pop-culture references and complicated mother-daughter relationships. Here are my hopes for the Netflix revival.
Â
Luke and Lorelai finally get together
Â
One of my major gripes with the series finale is that we never got any resolution between Luke and Lorelai. After four seasons of “will they, or won’t they,” Luke and Lorelai satisfied fans when they finally got together in the season four finale. However, fans never found out what happened to them after the series finale. Hopefully we see Luke and Lorelai happily together (hopefully with children of their own).
Â
A Sookie Cameo (in any way, shape, or form)
Â
When Melissa McCarthy publicly announced that she would not be returning for the Gilmore Girls revival, fans voiced their disapproval. However Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino stated that she would write in a cameo for Melissa McCarthy if she had a free moment to stop by the set.
Â
Rory ends up with Jess
Â
Out of all of Rory’s boyfriends, Jess was always my personal favorite. He understood Rory and shared her love of books and music. Although he was a punk during the first few seasons, he really matured as the show went on. By the time the show ended, it was obvious that Jess was the best choice for Rory.
Â
A successful Paris
Â
Paris has always been a fan-favorite Gilmore Girls character. I would love to hear about the amazing success that Paris had over the years. And of course, the most important question: what fantastic job did she end up having?
Â
Resolution between Lorelai and Emily
Â
Emily and Lorelai always had a rocky relationship. Throughout the show, they got into many major arguments about everything from poor fashion choices to romance. It would be nice to see some resolution between the two, especially in the aftermath of Richard’s death.
Â
Tons of modern pop-culture references
Â
Gilmore Girls is known for being full of pop-culture references. Rory and Lorelai talked about everything from Britney Spears to Hugh Hefner. My hope is that modern references are written into the revival, maybe even a nod to the Kardashians (the queens of modern pop-culture).
Â
A tribute to Edward Herrman
Â
The actor that played Richard Gilmore, Edward Herrman, sadly passed away last year. His absence will certainly be felt in the revival and the first episode titled “Winter” is dedicated to Richard’s passing.
Tons of town festivals
Â
Some of my favorite Gilmore Girls scenes take place during major town events. The town of Stars Hollow is known for its bizarre events, from snowman building contests to end of summer festivals. I would love to see the resurgence of some of these beloved town festivals.
Â
Pop tarts and Chinese food
Â
Rory and Lorelai were known for having poor diets. They lived off of Pop tarts and Chinese food. As a college student, I sympathize with their diets. It will be interesting to see if Rory and Lorelai eat almost every meal at the famous Luke’s Diner.
Â
A satisfying conclusion
Â
Gilmore Girls is my favorite show of all time. It was a big part of my childhood and I can only hope that Amy Sherman-Palladino does us all proud and creates a satisfying conclusion to an amazing show.
