Springtime Scents for 2015!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

Spring may be the most anticipated season of the year, especially for us Canadians. Even if the snow hasn’t officially melted yet and the weather isn’t particularly warm, we’re still thankful. The fact that winter is near its torturous end is enough to get us excited. We can pack away our parkas with pride and pull out those pastels without despair because spring, my friend, is just about here. And as we prepare to welcome in the beautiful spring flowers, we also wonder how we can smell like one.

The answer is perfume. Every year, our favourite fashion designers and fragrant-minded celebrities come up with new tantalizing fragrances and this year is no exception. Some of our favourite perfumes are back with a new twist and new look. There are also a couple new scents to try out as well. Take a look at this season’s best springtime scents.

1. The NEST Fragrances Collection

Paradise by NEST Fragrances, 50ml, $78 at Sephora

The Nest Fragrance Collection is a relatively new line of perfume created by Laura Slatkin in 2005 and launched in 2008. Both her and her husband, Harry Slatkin, are successful entrepreneurs and creators of scented candles and other home fragrances. The Nest Fragrance Collection uses brilliant colours, textures, and smells to create a line of interesting and unique scents. This collection is a great choice for spring as it combines beautiful floral and fruity notes. If you’re a fan of citrus you may want to try out ‘Paradise’ which is inspired by the fresh scent of orange.

2, Marc Jacob’s Daisy Eau So Fresh Sorbet

Daisy Eau So Fresh Sorbet by Marc Jacobs, 75ml, $95 at Sephora or Murale

Daisy Sorbet by Marc Jacobs, 50ml, $85, at Sephora or Murale

The Sorbet collection was launched this past January is a new twist on Marc Jacob’s first and classic perfume, Daisy. While the original Daisy perfume is a fresh combination of strawberry, gardenia and jasmine, this year’s edition is a lovely combination of mandarin, apple blossom, and lotus flower. The original Daisy Eau So Fresh perfume has a lighter, floral scent and comes in a colourful and bigger bottle than Daisy. The Sorbet addition takes on a fruitier form with hints of grapefruit, pear, and passion fruit.

Both perfumes smell absolutely wonderful and would be a great choice for a fresh, new scent for this spring. Daisy Dream by Marc Jacobs is another spring scent if you’re looking for more options.

3. PRADA Candy L’eau

Candy L’eau by Prada, 50ml, $85 at Sephora or Murale

Like Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Candy L’eau is a twist on its original perfume, which came out during the summer of 2011. Prada Candy was the perfect name for the fragrance as it combined sweet notes like caramel, vanilla, and sweet pea flowers. Candy L’eau came out in April 2013 as a lovely springtime scent. With citrus and floral notes, this perfume gives of an elegant and fresh allure. I honestly love this scent more than the original because it’s a bit lighter and more subtle. If you’re looking for a sophisticated, everyday perfume, Candy L’eau is a great choice.

4. Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb

Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, 50ml, $128 at Sephora

This fragrance is easily the most luxurious of the five and with good reason. The bottle itself was designed to look like a multi-faceted diamond. The first Flowerbomb perfume was created in 2005 and was designed to be a “bomb” or explosion of floral fragrance. It definitely succeeded and over the last ten years had come up with almost a dozen different editions.  Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum is a beautiful mixture of beautiful floral notes like freesia, Centifolia rose, osmanthus and Sambac jasmine. This perfume was literally inspired by a garden and is an amazing choice for this spring.

5. Nina Ricci’s Les Delices de Nina

Les Délices de Nina by Nina Ricci, 50ml

I must admit, Nina Ricci was my first and favourite designer perfume. Each edition of the Nina perfume smells absolutely amazing and I’ve been a fan since the first one came out in 2006. This year, the Nina fragrance is inspired by the world of fantasy and the world of strawberry candies. A cross between Alice in Wonderland and Hansel and Gretel, Nina Ricci’s Les Délices de Nina mixes the sweet notes of strawberry with notes of citrus and gardenia. This fragrance is limited edition and will only be available in certain stores for spring.

So if you haven’t figured it out already, I’m pretty obsessed with perfume. In my mind, perfume is synonymous with style. You want to create your own signature but you also want to play around with different scents. Spring is definitely a time when you can both experiment or update your scent. There are tons of options and you really can’t go wrong.
