Halloween Candy Ranking

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Since we were little, we’ve taken one night every year to gleefully say “trick or treat” to our neighbors and, in return, hopefully load up on good candy. Here’s a ranking of ten common Halloween treats.

10. Whoppers

Does anyone genuinely enjoy these? I have never heard anyone claim Whoppers as their favorite candy, which is why they end up at the bottom of the Halloween candy bucket and the end of this list.

9. Every flavor of Tootsie Rolls ever

These only seem to appear in October. Everyone likes the classic chocolate tootsie roll, but in October, they appear in lime, vanilla, cherry, and whatever other flavor your heart desires.

8. Bubble Gum

This isn’t a bad candy to get, if you enjoy chewing something that’s rock-hard for about three minutes before it returns to being hard and flavorless.

7. Almond Joy

This is only being ranked this far down the list because we feel bad for it. Almond Joys are a weird mix of coconut, almond and chocolate, which is somehow less “joy” and more “really?” on October 31st.

6. Dum Dums

Sometimes you get lucky to get a yummy flavor, but other times not so much, and the lollipop will sit in the bottom of your Halloween bucket only to be thrown out because you never end up wanting it.

5. Nerds

Packaged in tiny boxes, nerds are a good treat to find in your bucket. However, it depends on which flavor of the sugary coating you get. Pink (strawberry) is good, but some of the special “Halloween” flavors are less than satisfactory.

4. Laffy Taffy

We find Laffy Taffy to be hit-or-miss based on flavor – and if you’re wearing braces or not. Ah, middle school.

3. Blow Pops / Tootsie Pops

This candy is a classic favorite. It’s a two-in-one – a sucker AND a piece of gum or tootsie roll!

2. Fun Size Skittles/M&M’s

These two tie for second place, because good things do come in small packages.

1. Full size chocolate bars

Yeah, you know what we’re talking about. Every Halloween, you go to those houses in your neighborhood who, for some reason, give out the FULL SIZE chocolate bars. Any variety works (Hershey’s, Milky Way, Twix, Three Musketeers, Crunch), and you didn’t even have to pay a dollar at the store. (Mini versions would come in at  #1.5 on this list.)
