10 Hacks to Help You Start Your Mornings Off Right

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

Mornings.

To most college students, even the word is enough to make one cringe in disgust. The actual thing? Now that is a whole other story.

1. Get things ready the night before.

There’s something extremely satisfying about having things already thought out before you wake up. Picking out your clothes and having your breakfast prepped often means little room for a problematic morning. Things flow smoothly and you’re given much more room for taking your time.

2. Wake up a little earlier than normal.

Nothing is more stressful than scrambling to get ready prior to work, classes, or other oligations. It leads us to bad moods early in the day and causes us to do things with less effort than we normally would hope for. It also helps wake us up opposed to rolling out of bed five minutes beforehand.

3. Don’t grab for your social media right away.

This is something most of us start our mornings off with. Instead, try to veer away from the technological brainwashing and set the tone for the rest of the day with something other than what Sarah ate for a midnight snack yesterday or Kevin’s political rant. It’s a new day, believe it or not you’ll live if you skip out one this old news.

4. Stretch it out.

This is something so insignificant that can impact one’s morning so greatly. A happy body means a happy mind.

5. Scrub your tongue.

This sounds weird and I admit it is, but there are multiple articles I have encountered that explain the importance of brushing your tongue for long periods of time in the AM (Haha).

6. Blast some tunes.

Music never fails to set one’s mood when starting off your day. Pick a genre or artist that puts you in a happy mood and dance around your room for a while to get that blood flowing.

7. Read a positive quote.

A little positivity can go a long way. Read some wisdom or happy saying and go kick the day’s butt.

8. Write down what you hope to accomplish for the day.

I would argue that to-do lists are one of the most productive ways to begin your day. Once you physically write down what you need to get done and adjust your mindset to finish them, you are more likely to do so.

9. Drink a cup of tea or coffee.

A good cup of coffee or tea never fails to warm you up and give you the needed caffiene to last the day.

10. Eat breakfast.

In this day and age, many people skip out on the cliche “most important meal of the day.” Brain fuel is crucial to productivity and alertness. Small or big, grab something to eat.
