When you first move out, you may have limited space, a limited budget, or both. Buying items that do more than one job will save you money and leave room to store other things. Here are some suggestions to get you started!
Â
Tupperware
Before you own dishes for every occasion, microwavable food storage containers will come in handy more often than you might think. Since they’re microwave safe and have lids, you can use them for almost anything. They also come in a variety of shapes and sizes. I personally have a cheaper Rubbermaid set that has survived fairly well so far!
Â
Adhesive Wall Hooks
As you start decorating your space and making it your own, having these on hand will make your life a lot easier. They’re often used to hang up pictures and other adornments, but they can also be used to hang up curtain rods, hide and organize cables, and create more storage space on your walls and inside cupboard doors. Since many landlords will not allow you to put nails in the walls, you will thank yourself for having these around.
Â
Coffee Maker
Not only can you make coffee and tea with one of these, you can also make a variety of food items! Oatmeal, grilled cheese, hard-boiled eggs, pasta – believe it or not, these can all be easily made with a coffee maker in a pinch.
Â
Duct Tape
This one is a gimme, but easily forgotten when you’re actually in the store. Grab it before you need it so you’re ready to make temporary repairs!
Â
Mattress Pad
This is a great additon to your bed for a cozy and restful night of sleep, but you can also put it on the floor with a sheet around it for a makeshift extra guest bed if necessary.
Â
Candles
Even if you don’t like to use candles for scent or decorative purposes, you should have a few on hand in the case of a power outage, along with matches and a few flashlights. Don’t let yourself get stuck in the dark!
