The 2018 Winter Olympics just came to a close; now it’s time to learn about the original Olympians who ruled over Greece many, many years ago. These Olympians were a breed of their own: immortal, powerful, divine and, of course, remarkably attractive. Which of these Olympians would you want as your alter-ego?
1. Zeus: father of gods and men, lord of the sky
Of all the Greek gods and goddesses, Zeus was the greatest. Men want to be him, women want to be with him. Zeus is known for his invincible strength, electric personality (literally, the guy could shoot lightning bolts) and power over all of Olympus. Truthful and just, Zeus is your go-to friend for honest advice. But don’t think twice about pulling a quick one on him, his revenge will be your worst nightmare. If Zeus were your alter-ego, you’d be able to withstand anything — you’re a true leader.
- Pros: honest, fair, powerful, fruitful
- Cons: vengeful, unfaithful (to his wife Hera)
- Symbols: bull, eagle
2. Hera: Queen of Heaven, goddess of marriage and of women’s fertility
Hera is most commonly known as the wife of Zeus; but she’s also his sister. She’s famous for her jealousy and cruel humor. Hera is notorious for seeking revenge on Zeus’ lovers. Zeus may be the most powerful god, but Hera knows exactly how to swiftly and silently scheme against him. If Hera were your alter-ego, you’d be able to exact revenge on anyone you please and never be punished.

3. Poseidon: god of the deep, ruler of the sea
Due to his terrifying ability to move the ground and sea, Poseidon is best known as the “Shaker of the Earth.” He has many of the same attributes as his brother Zeus; but unlike Zeus, he lacks goodwill towards humans. Since some would describe Poseidon as dangerous and unpredictable, he’s the type of god you definitely would not want as your enemy. If Poseidon were your alter-ego, no one would even try to mess with you.

4. Apollo: god of prophecy, sun, medicine and archery
Apollo is one of the most important gods. Apollo has many skills, and he possess a wealth of knowledge about poetry, art and music. He’s remembered as being youthful, beardless and physically attractive. Despite his remarkably good looks, he had some unfortunate relationships — he never married. If Apollo were your alter-ego, you’d be the ideal friend to go to for some enlightenment.
- Pros: smart, well-rounded
- Cons: unfortunate in relationships
- Symbols: laurel tree
5. Artemis: goddess of wild Animals and hunting
Artemis is the Katniss Everdeen of the Olympians. She’s a kick-ass hunter — she knows what she’s doing when it comes to a bow and an arrow. She’s best known for hunting men who would try to seduce her; she’d give them a horrible punishments. If she were your alter-ego, people would definitely want you as their BFF, especially if they’re trying to fight off lingering boys that just don’t get the hint.
- Pros: fearless, animals love her (always a pro)
- Cons: aggressive
- Symbols: deer, bear
6. Athena: goddess of wisdom, crafts and skill
Athena is a renowned goddess blessed with many remarkable attributes. Her badass fighting skills and altruistic personality establishes her as a wise feminist far before our time. She’s not just any of Zeus’ many children — she’s unquestionably his favorite. She’s one of the few Olympians who enjoyed helping the mortals with her honest and just ways. If Athena were your alter-ego, you’d be loved by many. You’ll also have a full head of wisdom to offer.
- Pros: caring, genuine, spunky
- Cons: ruthless (during warfare)
- Symbols: owl
7. Aphrodite: goddess of love, sex and beauty
Aphrodite is by far the most beautiful goddess. She’s known for helping mortals with procreation and fertility. Despite her loving side, she has a rather lustful side to her as well. Aphrodite has many lovers and tempts men with her good looks. If Aphrodite were your alter-ego, you’d definitely be able to get anyone you desire.
- Pros: loving, beautiful, caring
- Cons: narcissistic
- Symbols: swan, dove
8. Hermes: the god of trade, thieves and border crossing (to the Underworld)
Hermes is best known as the messenger god. He has the ability to quickly transcend between the mortal and immortal world to deliver messages. Some describe Hermes as a trickster for his thieving tendency, which is usually all fun and games. He also bears the responsibility of bringing souls of the dead to the Underworld. If Hermes were your alter-ego, you’d be the bearer of all types of news and gossip.
- Pros: quick, insightful
- Cons: theft

Each Olympian is unique in his or her own way. Maybe you’re wise like Athena, or maybe you’re a badass fighter like Artemis. Either way, embrace it and live your best life!
