For his Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Dennis Basso was inspired by Hollywood starlets from the 1940s and 1950s like Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth. Taking this look forward in time, he used bold floral patterns on double silk ballgowns in addition to boxier-shaped jackets and even lace shorts. Throughout the collection he also used a variety of furs and leathers. The strongest pieces in his collection, though, were those where he focused on black and white elements, especially his mink jackets with geometric designs and a white geometric organza dress with a sweetheart neckline. Every outfit had matching shoes designed by Brian Atwood.
The starlet look appeared backstage, too, with “pin-up chic” makeup designed by Kabuki. Kabuki, his assistant Eric Soto, and the Sephora PRO team used a stripe of black eyeliner (Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper), a bright matte tomato red lip (Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil in Toast), and even false eyelashes to match Basso’s 2014 starlet. Hair was sleek in a wrapped ponytail designed by John Barrett.
