Summer is just around the corner and in case you haven’t had the chance to stock up on cute swimwear from Victoria’s Secret, you might want to do that ASAP. In fact, you might want to buy enough for this year AND next year because VS is officially shutting down their swimwear collection, according to BuzzFeed News.
A few weeks ago, the company announced that approximately 200 jobs would be cut, in addition to the elimination of particular merchandise. While the press release didn’t go into too much detail, it stated that one of the new strategies involves: “Focusing resources on core merchandise categories, where the company believes the greatest growth potential exists. This will involve the elimination of certain merchandise categories.”
Now, we finally know which category will be cut—and it will destroy all of your beach-loving hearts. According to Citigroup, VS will be eliminating their swimwear line, choosing to focus more on their activewear apparel.
This may come as a shock to many, considering that it appeared as though the swimwear line was providing revenue for the company. Perhaps it was the “swim special” that aired on TV or the fact that swimwear contributed to 6.5% of sales at the chain, which gave us this impression. However, reports from last August told a different tale. Swimwear sales were significantly lower and the head of Victoria’s Secret, Sharon Turner, said it was the “biggest disappointment and we did it to ourselves.”
Because of the poor sales performance, the company will now be focusing on Victoria’s Secret lingerie, Victoria’s Secret beauty and PINK. Since VS “will be exiting out of all current inventory by the end of this year,” we’d highly recommend that you grab all your favorite swim apparel before it’s gone for good.
