Now that it’s my senior year, I’ve suddenly realized that I’ve let the time pass me by without even knowing it. The beautiful city of Charleston has so much to offer, which was one of my main reasons for attending the College of Charleston. But now that the reality of graduation is beginning to set in, I know I need to maximize the time I have left and make a concrete CHS Bucket List. So to hold myself accountable, let me share with you guys the downtown attractions I’m ashamed I haven’t given a shot yet:
- A Ghost Tour
-
Even though I worked at the bookstore that claims to have founded the original Ghost Tour and scheduled dozens of tours, I’ve never actually taken the time to participate in one myself. There’s so many fantastic stories to be told around here, especially now that some of the tours are becoming more critically aware of the horrific events that have occurred in the state throughout the course of history. My ideal tour is a perfect blend between a history lesson and spooky campfire story.
- THE Bridge Run
-
I have always envied the people who had the self-control to wake-up at the crack of dawn to participate in the run over the Ravenel Bridge because it really is so so gorgeous, but the traffic and the early-ness of it all has prevented me from doing so. But this year I am super determined to at the very least, walk the whole thing. It’ll take some practice, but I’m close enough to the bridge that I can take a few practice walks beforehand.
- Hall’s Chophouse
-
This one is simply because of how pricey it is, but there’s a reason the place is expensive – I’ve rarely heard a bad review of the food. It might take saving at least three paychecks, but I might as well give it a try.
- the Charleston Museum
-
I work SO close to this place and still have not stopped by. Even if it ends up being a bit underwhelming, I know at least a few parts of it are fun and it feels wrong to never go.
- Downtown Drinks (obviously)
-
Now that I’m finally 21, I feel like going on a bar crawl is overdue. Even just going to some of the best restaurants (like Juanita Greenburg’s) and ordering a margarita legally is something I’ve looked forward to for longer than I should have. This one I obviously couldn’t do before I was old enough, but I’ve been able to for a while and haven’t made the time to go out, so that’s certainly on the bucket list.
If you know me and know I’ve missed some CHS must-sees please let me know – I’m dying to make the most of this beautiful place before I might have to leave. As long as it’s not a carriage ride. Save the horses.
But that’s an article for another time.
