In the past few weeks, I’ve not only begun my senior year, but also my first internship. My schedule is very different compared to any other year I’ve been in school as I spend most of my week at my internship. Additionally, I have in-person classes on Friday, and I work on the weekends. It’s been a busy semester so far to say the least! Here are some of my tips on how to make the most out of your internship while still being successful academically.
- Be Organized

While being organized is much easier said than done, it is vital to balance having a busy schedule like this. When I am at my internship, I focus on my tasks every day and have my Mac ready with my projects. With my internship, I have done several graphic design projects, which I have organized in folders on my desktop, so I don’t lose the files! I make sure I’m organized and prepared to finish all my tasks by the time they’re due.
- Network
-
Since I’m at my internship most of the week, I spend a lot of time with my coworkers. Getting to know my coworkers has allowed me not only to make strong connections in the workplace, but to also have more fun in the office! Everyone in the office is amazing and wants to help me reach my goals. Getting to know everyone makes my internship a more rewarding experience.
- Embrace Learning

Whether you’re in the classroom or workplace, there is always something new to learn. Many of the projects I’ve been assigned overwhelmed me at first, having to work with software I’ve never used before. However, just by embracing the opportunity, I’ve been able to learn valuable skills for my future career. For example, I now know how to use Constant Contact (email marketing) and how to make graphics through InDesign!
