This year has been the biggest year for movies since 2019, so it’s no surprise that 2022 has produced the biggest blockbusters and fun releases to get inspired by just in time for Halloween.
Let’s take a look at the movies everyone has been watching this year to get some costume ideas.
- “The Batman”
-
Dress up as Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman from this year’s newest Batman movie, “The Batman.” Kravitz may be a side character in the film, but she shines out as Catwoman and certainly steals scenes away from Robert Pattinson’s Batman.
Pair a tight leather jacket and leather pants or a simple leather catsuit to complete the costume as the masked cat burglar.
Or you could just go as Batman, a classic Halloween costume with a little darker spin. Pattinson’s Batman is the darkest to date, so don’t forget to grab some dark eyeshadow and as much angst as you can. - “Top Gun: Maverick”
-
Dress up as a fighter pilot alone or with friends as characters from summer 2022’s biggest movie. “Top Gun: Maverick” has been this year’s biggest hit in the theaters, why not celebrate by dressing up as Phoenix (Monica Barbaro), or even as Maverick (Tom Cruise).
You don’t even need all the gear, you could go simple with a pilot’s jumpsuit and maybe a cool pair of sunglasses to finish off the look. The beach scene (you know the one) is always a great option if you are open to walking around in a bathing suit.
- “Bodies Bodies Bodies”
-
Dress up with your friends as the characters from the summer slasher, “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” The new movie is all about gen-z, so going shopping for new clothes isn’t necessary, as you could grab clothes from your own closet. However, if you want a better effect, you might need to splash some fake blood or simply just accessorize with some glow sticks.
- “X” and “PEarl”
-
The two horror films were released as the first two of a trilogy this year. Both films give you the option to dress in farm-inspired clothing, influenced by Pearl’s setting, or go with ’70s-themed outfits from “X.”
- “Do Revenge”
-
“Do Revenge” is Netflix’s new high school comedy taking inspiration from classics like “Mean Girls,” “Heathers,” and “Clueless.” Recreate the ’90s-inspired Rosewood uniforms with a pastel plaid skirt, a matching tie and a white button-down.
You can also try out any of Drea’s or Eleanor’s outfits by taking inspiration from their gen-z x ’90s outfits throughout the film.
- “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”
-
You could dress as Scarlet Witch from Marvel’s horror-inspired “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” or take inspiration from any one of Wanda’s outfit’s from the 2021 hit series, “Wandavision.”
The Scarlet Witch may have a complicated costume, but show up with the headpiece and it is likely to be recognizable anywhere you go.
- “Thor: Love and Thunder”
-
The second Marvel movie released this year, “Thor: Love and Thunder,” was made with girl power in mind bringing Jane Foster, aka The Mighty Thor, and King Valkyrie to the big screen for the first time.
It finally gives anyone the option to dress as Thor, but as Natalie Portman’s The Mighty Thor, or the option to don a crown as Tessa Thompson’s King Valkyrie.
- “Don’t Worry Darling”
-
Florence Pugh’s newest movie, also starring Harry Styles, comes out just in time for Halloween and ’50s-inspired costumes. The film takes place in a polished neighborhood in the ’50s perfect for themed and matching costumes.
Two people can dress up as Pugh and Styles — this year’s most talked about celebs. Styles’ character is dressed up in suits throughout the film, whereas Pugh wears ’50s housewife dresses.
- “Everything Everywhere All At Once”
-
Arguably one of the best films released this year, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” has the most costume options to choose from.
Throughout the film the main character, Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh), goes through hundreds of costume changes, the most notable being a rock and a woman with hot dogs as fingers (it makes more sense when you watch the movie). You could also choose any one of her daughter’s, Joy Wang (Stephanie Hsu), makeup looks and you would definitely stand out.
Cinema is back. 2022 has brought an onslaught of films to choose from, it’s almost impossible to decide. Whether you take from this list or choose from any of the many other movies released this year, there is no going wrong with any choice.
