The Official Disney Fan Club created in 2009, known as Disney 23 (D23), has a convention every two years where creators of the Walt Disney Company celebrate past events and look towards the future. At their exposition event, D23 is known for featuring actor meet and greets, cosplay and multiple question-and-answer sections with different panels. This past D23 2022 gave special updates about what fans can expect from all of Disney’s companies. For Marvel fans, this event paired with San Diego Comic Con 2022 earlier this summer, announced 25 new shows and movies, along with hinting at all the people you can expect to see within the next three years.
Beware that this article may contain spoilers for previous movies. With that, let me personally welcome you to the Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The lucky fans earlier this summer saw sneak peeks of the trailers that had many (including myself) in tears. The sequel to Black Panther (2018), Wakanda Forever follows the fight to protect the country after King T’Challa’s death. Outsiders try to invade the nation and Wakandans are forced to band together and save their country. This movie is bittersweet for a lot of fans, considering the passing of loved and respected actor Chadwick Boseman. As we get to experience his impact on the film we realize just how big of a legacy he left behind. This movie also wraps up Marvel’s Phase Four, which brought us to the end of the original Avengers. If there’s one thing you can expect, it’s for this movie to pull on the heartstrings.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Expected next Feb., this Ant-Man movie will begin MCU: Phase Five! Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne are back again to fight in the Quantum Realm, the home of danger they’ve never seen before. Predictions include the crossover between what happened in season one of Loki and maybe even the Multiverse seen in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. Season two of Loki is expected summer of 2023 and might even pick up on some of the problems Ant-Man and Wasp will face.
Secret Invasion
This release is a miniseries coming to Disney+ next spring featuring Marvel’s Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Actress Cobie Smulders who plays Maria Hill appeared at SDCC 2022 to talk about it and the two-minute promo trailer was released shortly after. In the trailer, Nick Fury finally comes back after years of being away to deal with Earth 616’s newest danger. This series is based on the threat of shapeshifters who have been infiltrating Earth for years and is heavily based on the 2008 comic series. In the trailer, James Rhodes (War Machine) seems to be back with other originals for this Nick Fury storyline-based TV show.
Blade
Marvel studios announced that the movie Blade begins shooting this Oct. and can be expected in Nov. 2023. Throughout the Eternals movie, we see Dane Whittman warning Sersi that he has something to tell her— his family isn’t the average one. In the post-credits scene of Eternals, Dane picks up the Ebony Blade for the first time but is warned by the voice of a stranger. This post-credit scene sets the foundation for the movie reboot surrounding the vampire-hunting anti-hero and hints at a potential back story of the Ebony Blade.
Captain America: New World Order
The Disney+ original The Falcon and the Winter Soldier brought the iconic duo of Sam Wilson and Bucky to the screen. In the show, Wilson with the help of Bucky ascends into the role of Captain America. The plot for the upcoming Captain America movie hasn’t been revealed, but if you watched the show you’ll realize “New World Order” was also the title of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s first episode. If the movie is anything like the show and former Captain America movies, expect cars flipping, traditional Marvel action scenes and a lot of good dialogue on May 3, 2024.
Daredevil: Born Again
Charlie Cox from the 2015 TV show Daredevil is back for the newest Daredevil piece. Cox told fans that the Disney Plus series is “not a continuation of the Netflix show.” This leaves the prospect for new villains, heroes and throwbacks to the previous show’s characters. The Daredevil character cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home was completely unexpected to fans, so be sure to look out for this release in 2024.
Fantastic FOUR
Expected 2 years from now in Nov., the Fantastic Four reboot will begin Marvel Phase Six. After Multiverse of Madness, many are wondering if John Krasinski will make it in the film, but what viewers can be ready for are new abilities, new characters and new danger.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
The first of the two Avengers films seen in 2025, will air on May. 2. The plot includes Kang the Conqueror’s ploy to conquer all of Earth-616. This Avengers will be like we’ve never seen before— really it’s a whole new team of Avengers with older and newer members. While there is speculation, no one really knows just what superheroes, villains, anti-heroes and everything in between we will see in the 2025 film.
Once again, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given fans new shows, movies, heroes and villains to be excited about. This article captures only a few of the releases we’ll all be seeing within these next three years as Marvel announced the development of around 25 new releases. Being a marvel fan is exciting, depressing and sometimes even frustrating. Marvel redefined the genre of action movies and with the wrapping of Phase Four, and the beginnings of Phase Five and Phase Six, the legacy of Marvel continues. Many of the movies we grew up watching are following us into the future. The most important thing is if you aren’t a Marvel fan, maybe it’s time to become one!
