The Actor Who Played Hagrid Died & ‘Harry Potter’ Fans Are Heartbroken

On Oct. 14, Robbie Coltrane, Hagrid in Harry Potter, passed away ā€” and we are heartbroken. Coltrane meant so much to Gen Z who grew up on the wizarding films. The half-giant and half-human won hearts on screen and off with his tough exterior and warm, welcoming personality. A true gentle giant who brought magic to every child he touched.

His old castmate, Daniel Radcliff, Harry in Harry Potter, released a statement on his passing. The duo worked together on eight movies over the course of a decade.Ā

ā€œRobbie was one of the funniest people Iā€™ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set,ā€ Radcliffeā€™s statement reads. ā€œIā€™ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on ā€˜Prisoner of Azkaban,ā€™ when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagridā€™s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up. I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that heā€™s passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man.ā€

News of the beloved actorā€™s death has caused a stir on social media today with many fans posting tributes to his lifeā€™s work.Ā Wands up, Gen Z.

Raise your wands tonight for Hagrid and Coltrane, the best gamekeeps of our lifetime.Ā
