“Baby, it’s Halloween,” and Phoebe Bridgers is about to hit the stage as The Nightmare Before Christmas’ beloved female lead, Sally. She will be joined by the composer of the movie and the original voice of Jack Skellington, Danny Elfman, the original voice of Oogie Boogie, Ken Page, along with other original voices of the hit movie for the annual Nightmare Before Christmas Live in Concert.
News broke of Bridgers playing Sally on Oct. 17, 2022, and fans, including myself, are ecstatic. The shows will take place on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10 at the OVO Arena Wembley in London. The annual show includes a large live orchestra, a showing of the movie, and songs sung live on stage. It is the perfect way to bridge the two holiday seasons and keep the Nightmare Before Christmas fandom alive.
The Nightmare Before Christmas Live in Concert shows hit the stage for the first time in 2015, then once again in 2016. However, the concert did not happen again in 2017 but was back once again in 2018 due to eager fans’ demands. Since its comeback, it has been an annual event reeling fans in each year to see their favorite characters and musicians live. Last year’s show took place at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles where Billie Eilish accompanied Danny Elfman as Sally. Billie Eilish’s rendition of Sally’s Song brought in tons of buzz from news articles to social media platforms and I just know Bridgers will do the same.
Now, I may be a bit biased here, but when you combine two of my favorite things (Nightmare Before Christmas and Phoebe Bridgers), I am automatically going to have high hopes. Bridgers is perfect for the role of Sally, and just like Sally’s Song, Bridgers’ discography has a grim gloomy undertone. Not only that, but Bridgers’ ethereal voice will fit the role of Sally perfectly, maybe even better than the original Catherine O’Hara version. As a fan of both Nightmare and Bridgers, I can safely say I have never been more excited for anything in my entire life, and I cannot wait for this year’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Live in Concert.
