On Friday the 21st October, Peggy Gou, alongside many other talented DJs, put on a memorable whirlwind of a performance at Warehouse Project in Manchester, making my hour trek back to Leeds at 4am undeniably worth it.

While Peggy detests the emphasis of her gender as a ‘female’ DJ, I cannot deny that there was something undeniably compelling, as a woman myself, seeing a female command a crowd of 10,000 people with her enchanting set. As a fan of electronic music, it is often quite difficult to find good female DJs in an industry largely dominated by men. Therefore, as I danced, I couldn’t help but feel confident and powerful, as I watched Peggy do what she does best: put on a damn good f***ing set.

Peggy’s set lasted a slim two hours, in which she played all the classics, including Starry Night, I Go, It Makes You Forget and Han Pan. While the other DJs, including Dixon, TSHA and Job Jobse all played incredible sets, the energy in the crowd undeniably shifted as Peggy stepped on stage. Even my friend, struggling in the restroom from a questionable number of drinks, seemed to forget her nausea and rushed back into the crown, revived by Peggy’s music.

Peggy promptly finished her set at the strike of 4am, leaving the crowds restless and yelling for more. Unfortunately, Peggy left strictly on time, leaving the crowds slightly annoyed. However, we were all extremely buzzed by the amazing set which had been performed.

A note about the venue itself: The Warehouse Project in Manchester, set in a huge industrial warehouse, provides the perfect, grungy energy anyone seeks for a long night of techno. Do, however, make sure to drink beforehand, as drink prices surpass over 10 pounds. Also prepare yourselves for the toilets or even more wisely, try and not use them at all – trust me on this one.

Overall, though, the Peggy show was an amazing night and I urge you all to buy tickets for her next upcoming performance in the UK. Stay tuned for more techno reviews.
