Grey’s Anatomy without the Grey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

I don’t know about you, but Grey’s Anatomy was my absolute favorite show in middle and early high school, making it my comfort show now. On Thursday, November 17 2022, star Ellen Pompeo who plays Meredith Grey just announced that she would not be returning to the show through an Instagram post, Writing:

The first episode of Grey’s aired on March 27, 2005 on ABC, so it is not entirely shocking that after 17 years, (almost) 19 seasons, and multiple casts gone through that Pompeo is officially ending her Grey’s career. Season 19 began premiering on October 6, 2022 and is only featured in 8 of them. So far she’s been in 7, which raises the question of which one will be her last?

Shonda Rhimes, the director, has thrown the characters in this show through a whirlwind of emotions. From traumatic experiences to the most heartwarming romantic gestures, every event makes the watcher feel closer to the characters making it difficult every time one of them leaves. We’ve watched Meredith grow up over time, starting as a nervous intern into becoming the chief of surgery at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. She fell in love with and then lost her McDreamy, she developed relationships with countless friends and family, became a successful surgeon without the help of her mother, and raised her kids mostly as a single mother, but with endless help from the people that love her. Currently feeling sentimental and will restart this show immediately.
