For me, retail therapy is a necessity in life. With finals right around the corner, here are the upcoming winter trends to help cure the craving to shop the stress away.
The color scheme for this winter will be monochromatic. According to Pantone, these range from Lava Falls to Loden Falls. This basically means, anything goes this winter from neon to charcoal gray as long as you keep it to one color on top and bottom.
Let’s start with leather. Everyone knows that a leather jacket is an iconic statement piece, but this year, leather is everything. From leggings to tops to dresses, the runways have been demonstrating different leather clothing styles. Personally, I am very excited to be rocking a leather jacket this winter and maybe some pants. Please remember to respect the animals and shop faux.
Over the past few fashion seasons, the corset has come back and for this winter it is on trend. It will be staying in through the winter so let’s see if it’ll be around in the spring as well. Personally, I love how they look chic and classy at the same time. A corset is a perfect piece to put over a dress or flowy shirt or simply to wear by itself, maybe under a leather jacket?
The Y2K style will be sticking around for another season. Expect to see cargo pants, knitted sweaters, boxy fits, and maxi everything. When I say everything, I mean this year’s season there will be maxi dresses, skirts, pants, and shirts all in typical Y2K fashion. I am very excited about being bundled up in some cute, knitted sweaters this season, as we brave the cold but adding a feminine flair with a flowy blouse or a menswear aesthetic with cargo pants.
This winter the fashion designers are taking the idea of bundling up to a whole new level with over-sizing everything from robe jackets to suits with broad/hard shoulders. And expect to also see oversized leather coats. Dressing in oversized jackets, there will be more room to layer clothing underneath and beat the Maryland frigid winters.
With all this fashion variety, this season is very open to many different interpretations of what your own style is. There is no way that “you could go wrong.” Remember to dress how you feel confident and what you are comfortable in. To quote Chanel, “The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.”
