If you just finished Wednesday, the Netflix adaption inspired by the Addams Family, then you’re probably bored and searching for something new to binge. Well, I have some good news; the wait is almost over for the Netflix series that left us on a cliffhanger in their season finale!
WARNING: Spoilers ahead!
Emily in Paris: Season 3 (December 21st, 2022)
In the season finale that premiered last December, we were left shaken up by all the chaos flooding Emily’s world. Sylvie decides to leave Savoir and the Gilbert Group with some of her biggest clients to launch her own company. Her decision was led by her conflict with Madeline (Emily’s boss from Chicago). Sylvie asks Emily if she would like to join her, but Emily is torn between her newfound life in Paris or returning home to Chicago to her big promotion.
It’s worth noting that the men in her life, Gabriel and Alfie, are contributing factors to her decision. There are pros and cons to both decisions, so I’m curious to see what happens. I would never want to be in her position. Choosing Paris means fighting to be with Gabriel (since Camille seems to be pursuing a relationship with Gabriel, despite having made a deal with Emily that neither one of them would date him), continuing to build her career abroad and getting to be amongst her new friends. If she chooses Chicago, that means she can pursue her relationship with Alfie and get the big promotion that she has always dreamed about.
Emily never gives her final decision in the finale. So, which will she choose? I’m on team Gabriel, so I hope she chooses Paris!
Ginny & Georgia: Season 2 (January 5th, 2023)
I can’t believe that it’s almost been two years since the first season of Ginny & Georgia premiered! In the season finale, Ginny finds out about her mom’s many secrets, including that she murdered her ex-husband, Kenny. A private investigator shares Georgia’s case with Ginny, and that’s when all the puzzle pieces form in Ginny’s head; her mother is a mastermind manipulator and doesn’t know if she should trust her.
Ginny also ends up in a huge fight with her friends, Marcus and her ex-boyfriend, Hunter. Fearful of her mother and upset with the crumble of her friend group, Ginny decides to run away. She hops on her motorcycle with her brother, Austin, disappearing to an unknown destination. Were they on their way to see Zion? Did they run off to live on their own? So many questions are left unanswered, and we’ve had to wait two years!
I also want to point out how exciting this is for our Laurier community because Nikki Roumel (who plays young Georgia) was a film student here at Wilfrid Laurier University! We love seeing our peers thriving in their careers!
You (Part One: February 9th, 2023 & Part Two: March 9th, 2023)
I’m really excited about this one as I’ve been following the release of each season since the series premiered in 2018. Now, I wouldn’t say I’m as much of a fan as I was four years ago. When the first season premiered, it was such a new concept to me; one that was unpredictable and amusing. I found that throughout the seasons the plot gets progressively boring. I also found it to be more gruesome, which is not really my taste. I liked the thrill of season one and somewhat of season two. Season three was a bit farfetched and fabricated.
I’m hoping that the new season will be similar to season one; Joe wasn’t as psychotic in season one as he is now. We were left on a cliffhanger: what the hell is Joe doing in Paris?! The way Joe gets away with multiple murders is beyond me. Don’t get me started on the portable cage. Did he bring the cage with him to Paris?
In the last episode, Joe “wins” again: he burns his house down, leaves a note that makes it look like Love is to blame for everything —and, naturally, cuts off some toes, leaving them as DNA evidence so it looks like he also dies in the fire. So, this man is just roaming toe-free in Paris? I hate that visual—it makes me uncomfy!
We see that upon his arrival in Paris, Joe has now changed his name to Nick. I’m really hoping that my questions are answered in season four, such as how did Joe get to Paris and make it through customs? What happened to the jar of pee that he left in Peach’s house? What happened to Ellie? Will Jenna Ortega return as her character? Will the FBI finally intervene? Seriously, how is this man getting away with all of this and how is no one exposing him? Maybe just a tell-tale case of white masculinity and white privilege? We’ll find out in February I guess…
The new year can be such a haunting thought; with the pressure of setting a new year’s resolution and the slump of winter from January to March. Hopefully, the news of these new seasons of our favourite Netflix series will give you something to look forward to in the new year!
