Whoever coined the phrase “save the drama for your mama” has never been more on-point. We’re six days into the New Year and the Kimye drama has already resurfaced. Can someone please just take away their social media accounts? Anyone?
On January 5th, Kim Kardashian and North West posted a TikTok to their shared account (@kimandnorth), and let’s just say, it’s questionable. In the video the two — pose? Model? Stand? I’m not quite sure what’s going on there — to Kanye’s song, “Bound 2.” In the video, North becomes a creepy carbon copy of her father, Ye, through well-executed facial makeup and a Kanye-Esque baggy hoodie and beanie.
To anyone who has watched Ye’s “Bound 2” music video, this TikTok can be interpreted as inappropriate. ICYMI: the music video features Kim sensually dancing naked around her now ex-husband, Kanye (Ye) West. In the TikTok, Kim definitely doesn’t withhold her sexual poses from the video’s recreation with her daughter.Â
Her video stirred up a storm of backlash on platforms like Reddit. Fans still adore Kim’s hilarious daughter, North, but are now questioning Kim’s character, and why she even decided to post the video in the first place. Her Campus reached out to Kardashian’s team for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
One user commented, “It’s not North dressing up as Kanye that we find weird…What we find weird is Kim trying to be all sexy and sensual beside her daughter who is dressed up as her ex.”Â
Another one reasoned that the TikTok is “made worse when you know the context and lyrics of this song, and you remember the music video was also pretty much softcore porn.”Â
It appears that like me, other old fans are over the drama. In response to the ill-easing video, one user argued, “Why do this when he’s finally shut the hell up[?]”Â
A majority of media consumers find this video to be “uncomfy,” however other TikTok users swear that Kim’s stunt is going down “in the [G]uinness book of world slays.” One TikTok user even made a reaction video exclaiming, “North West deserves every award in the CGI department.”Â
This video was already brimming with uncomfortable feelings. What made it even stranger was that it was posted shortly after another video of the two seemingly innocently singing and dancing to “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. Oh, yikes.
Kim’s posting of North skillfully dressed as Ye was just bad timing following their lip-synching video, whether it was an ill jab toward Ye or not. Followers of Kimye drama are well aware of the bad blood between Ye and Swift. However other Kimye devotees speculate that the video might be an olive branch to Swift.
Although some religious Kim Kardashian fans find the videos hilarious, Kim is still facing backlash from a majority of the TikTok community and other major platforms. You’d think Kim would have enough of the gossip and theatrics after the past year, however, she appears to be one mama who sure loves her drama.Â
