These Memes From The Schiaparelli Show In Paris Have Me Cackling

If you’re a YA fantasy girlie, you know all about the Capitol from The Hunger Games. The people in the Capitol wear the most extravagant clothes, looking a little silly at times with faces covered in dramatic makeup, loud accessories, and bright colors. Besties, buckle up because the looks from the Schiaparelli show are giving Hunger Games Capitol core.

If you’ve been on social media, then you’d know that The Schiaparelli show at Paris Fashion Week happened on Jan. 22. The Schiaparelli line was founded by Elsa Schiaparelli back in the ’20s and is known for its larger-than-life creations, designs, and shows.

The Spring 2023 showcase each had a look inspired by a different animal. There were lions, snakes, tigers, peacocks, and more. People were happy that no animals were harmed during the making of these looks (everything was made from foam). But animal rights activists felt the looks were disgusting and were unhappy with the show. Many felt these looks promoted animals as “trophies” to wear.

Who Was There?

The celebrities that attended didn’t come to play. Stepping out in the most dramatic and somewhat uncomfortable (I’m looking at you, Doja Cat) looks.

Kylie Jenner was seen sporting a black velvet gown with a giant lion head on her shoulder. Really channeling that Leo energy, huh? This look sparked controversy as people felt it was a little disturbing. Fans felt like Kylie was normalizing animal cruelty by wearing this pre-show look. Fans felt it was especially insensitive because lions are critical animals, with only 20,000 on the planet today

Doja Cat stepped out in all red body paint, covered in 30,000 Swarovski crystals. She was unrecognizable and kind of iconic, TBH. The crystals span over her whole body, eyelids and all. She’s committed — I’ll give her that. Doja’s makeup artist, Pat McGrath, shared on Instagram that the crystals were hand-applied and the look took about five hours to put together.

What Are Fans Saying?

As mentioned above, many people weren’t happy with the looks, as they felt they were extremely insensitive. But some people applauded the art behind the animal heads and how much effort went into creating them.

One Twitter user, @petrichhore says, “The outrage over the Schiaparelli animal heads is very misguided. The level of expertise required to make these hand embroidered, painted, molded faux animal heads is just amazing.”

While user @miumiulace tweets, “Schiaparelli collection lowk gross, it gave I shoot wild animals for fun and for the aesthetic of it all, it’s giving I go into countries my ancestors ransacked to f*ck with the wildlife, it’s giving I’m a proud colonizer, idc if the heads were fake it was grotesque.”

The internet certainly has a lot of opinions about the event. More than that, they’re turning the show into the next big meme. And I’m here for it!
