Award season is in full swing, and with the 2023 Grammys airing on Feb. 5, anticipation is growing. The Grammys are a night for music lovers to root for their favorite artists — or yell at the TV when they feel their faves got snubbed. It’s also a night of iconic music moments, like Adele basically giving her Grammy to Beyonce in 2017.
Quite frankly, the months leading up to the Grammys and the show itself are slightly chaotic. When the Grammy nominations come out every year, fans are quick to express their opinions, and let’s just say, there are some mixed feelings. The 2023 Grammy nominations were no different. From Song of the Year noms to Best Rap Album, fans had a lot to say about who deserves the wins. With music’s biggest night just around the corner, TikTokers are making their predictions for who will walk away with the famous gramophone trophies, and they aren’t holding back. So if you and your besties are starting a betting pool for the big night’s results, let these TikTok-approved Grammy predictions guide you.
Record of the Year
When the Grammys announced the nominees for Record of the Year on TikTok, the comments were flooded with two names: Doja Cat and Adele. “Easy On Me” by Adele and “Woman” by Doja Cat took over the music industry, but one seems to be an evident winner in TikTokers’ eyes. Adele has been nominated over 25 times and has walked away with 15 wins. Given her history with the award show, fans seem to think Adele will run the categories she has nominations in (which is seven, but who’s counting?), including this one.
Album of the Year
2022 was Queen B’s year. Her return with her album Renaissance caused a rebirth of her beloved music, and her shift to new genres brought house and dance music to life. Let’s not forget, she also dominates the Grammys. She has had 88 career nominations with 28 wins. As for the 2023 Grammys, she also has the most nominations of any artist, with her work in nine categories.
Album of the Year is the biggest category of the award show, but for TikTokers, it seems like the winner is a no-brainer — Beyonce easily takes the win, in their opinion. Tiktoker @thechrissumlin says her possible win will be a much-needed “moment in culture.”
Song of the Year
Uh oh, the children of divorce are fighting again. Taylor Swift and Harry Styles are the unspoken mom and dad of music, but when it comes to their fans taking sides, it’s always a split decision. With “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” and “As It Was” among the nominees for Song of the Year, Swifties and Harries were going at it on TikTok for who takes the win. In the comments section of the Grammys’ TikTok reveal of the Song of the Year nominees, both sides made their stance clear. One Swiftie wrote, “All Too Well! Nothing compares. It’s a masterpiece.” Meanwhile, Tiktoker @sarahsincenewyork predicts Styles will win this category as well as sweep all his other nominations: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Engineered Album, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video.
Though 2022 might have been a memorable year for T-Swift and Styles, other TikTokers think Song of the Year will go to other nominees. TikToker @Davidburleson predicts Adele will continue her run with “Easy On Me,” whereas, TikToker @wewriteaboutmusic has a hopeful prediction that Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” takes the award.
Best New Artist
Latto might be a nominee for Best New Artist, but she has been making a name for herself in the R&B world for years. Her song “Big Energy” had breakthrough numbers in 2022 and hit the No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot R&B list, which landed her as a nominee for Best New Artist and garnered her some much-deserved recognition. Tiktoker @Simplysimone is all for the nomination and predicts Latto will bring home the famous gramophone.
Best Pop Solo Performance
The Best Pop Solo Performance category is stacked with iconic hits that are making it hard for TikTokers to choose who should walk away with the win. TikToker @popsamcam argues that Bad Bunny deserves to win the award for “Moscow Mule,” because the song “redefined pop music” and his performance was “charismatic and engaging.” However, he ultimately thinks Lizzo will take home the award for “About Damn Time” because it was the “song of the summer” and Lizzo is memorable for her personality.
Best Rap Album
TikTok had a lot to say about the Best Rap Album nominees, from the shock of Jack Harlow being on the list to users thinking it’ll be a close race between Future and Kendrick Lamar. TikToker @frequencystudios believes there is no debate who the winner is, however. He came to TikTok to confidently say Lamar’s album Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers “should and will” take this win. He feels the other nominees took the place of amazing rap albums that were ignored by the Grammys, whereas, Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers is deserving of its recognition.
Best Rap Song
TikTok might think Adele and Beyonce are taking over the 2023 Grammys, but users are pulling for Lamar to dominate the rap categories. TikToker @jonthrifts has no doubt that Lamar will walk away with multiple wins under his belt, including “The Heart Part 5” as Best Rap Song.
Best Music Video
If Blondie doesn’t get Song of the Year, fans predict she will at least walk away with her short film “All Too Well (10 minute version)” getting Best Music Video. TikToker @thechrissumlin made a video to stand by the Swifties. He said, “Of course. I mean, If they don’t give this to her, who else would they give it to?” The music video has won at the 2022 VMAs for Best Longform Video and at the American Music Awards for Favorite Music Video, so he might be onto something.
Some TikTokers are even placing their bets on the award show itself. TikToker @pharbiebarbie predicts Swift won’t even show up at all. Now, that would be a real Grammys snub. Whether predictions will be proven or downright rejected, the 2023 Grammys will sure to be an exciting one on Feb. 5 with the loaded categories of endless artistry and talent.
