As we begin the new year and approach the Oscars, one thing seems to be undeniably electrifying the air: film. If you can’t feel it in the air, then you can certainly see it every time you open social media, turn on the news, or sit in a coffee shop eavesdropping on conversations around you. 2023 could arguably be one of the most highly anticipated years for film that we have seen in recent decades. From superheroes to feuding boxing matches to revivals of classics, the lineup for this year’s movie releases has everyone on the edge of their seat, mouthwatering with the taste of over-buttered popcorn. Now, without further ado, dim the lights, cue Nicole Kidman, and take a drink of your blue raspberry slushy. Here is my “Must See Movie List” for 2023.

February

Knock at the Cabin

The Harry Potter fan in me audibly gasped when I saw the trailer for this psychological thriller starring none other than Rupert Grint (aka Ron Weasley). If you love a good scary vacation in a cabin in the wilderness gone wrong movie, this one is a must-see.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Marvel fans and Paul Rudd lovers are buzzing with excitement as we fly closer to the newest Marvel movie release date. During the third movie for Ant-Man and the Wasp, Marvel takes us back to the Quantum Realm, which is sure to be filled with shocking visuals and creatures alike.

March

Creed III

The Rocky spin-off and third release of the movie series Creed starring Michael B. Jordan is one that will have everyone from athletes to screaming Michael B. Jordan lovers fighting for a seat in the theater.

65

Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who brought us A Quiet Place, this prehistoric sci-fi film starring Adam Driver is expected to have the hair on the back of your neck standing up with each scene.

Scream VI

You guessed it— another Scream. This Hollywood classic is said to continue to follow the Scream story, this time in New York City.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Come on, who doesn’t love a superhero movie?

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Although I have never played the game, I am intrigued to see how this movie plays out. This highly anticipated movie stars Chris Pine, Regé-Jean Page and Michelle Rodriguez.

April

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

My inner child self is going to be thrilled to see my favorite Nintendo characters on the big screen instead of my small pink DS screen.

Evil Dead Rise

The fifth addition to the Evil Dead movie series is now projected to be released on the big screen. If you’re looking for a scare, grab a partner and see this bone-chilling rendition of a classic.

May

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Does this one even need an explanation?

Fast X

Another Fast and Furious? I think yes.

The Little Mermaid

I cannot wait to see this movie. This live-action version of everyone’s favorite mermaid princess Ariel is sure to take us on an adventure and leave our hearts feeling warm.

June

The Flash

This one is for my sister. While I am incredibly excited to see this movie, I have to give her credit for introducing me to this DC superhero. At our house, the popular TV show version played on anything and everything that had a screen.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Expected to be full of adventure, this Indiana Jones movie is long overdue, and I cannot wait to see what they add to this long-time classic franchise.

July

Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning, Part One

Tom Cruise. That’s the end of the sentence.

Oppenheimer

Described as a War Drama, this star-studded movie is highly anticipated in 2023. A few actors include Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and many more.

The Marvels

MCU takeover in 2023.

Barbie

This movie looks like a fun adaptation of the beloved Barbie doll. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, this movie looks fun and entertaining for all crowds.

August

Blue Beetle

Another DC superhero film!

September

The Nun 2

This horror movie should put you in the spirit for the upcoming spooky season.

October

The Exorcist

Would it even be October, the month of Halloween, without going to see a scary movie?

Pain Hustlers

Based on true crime events, this drama starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans is said to recount what happened when a woman who begins a job in Florida ends up in the middle of a criminal investigation.

November

Dune: Part Two

If you haven’t seen the first part of Dune run, don’t walk to watch it before the second part comes out in November. This fantasy world film stars Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet.

December

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

The Hunger Games fan in me is absolutely screaming.

Wonka

Perhaps one of my favorite childhood movies of all time is brought back to life on the big screen once more. Timothée Chalamet steps on the screen to play the classic and notorious candy maker Willy Wonka.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

It seems like there will be enough movies to go around for superhero fans this year.

This is not a completion of every movie coming out this year. Instead, I wanted to highlight my personal “Must See Movie List” of 2023. If you wish to see the full list of every movie being released in 2023, IMDb has a great webpage for your film fanatic pleasure.
