The Breakdown of Super Bowl LVII

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

In all honesty, I’m not the most avid football fan but the Super Bowl just happened, so it’s time for the rundown on the big game.

I’ve done my research and figured out the basics so welcome to: Super Bowl LVII for dummies.

The game was on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. EST at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

As you may have heard by now, Rihanna performed at the halftime show and everyone had high expectations like ASAP Rocky appearing and the announcement of a new album maybe?

What actually happened? Riri’s baby bump reveal.

Rihanna’s setlist was not only stacked with all of her most popular songs but her set included mid-air platforms and a bunch of backup dancers clad in white.

Onto the football stuff: the two teams in the game this year were the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

If you’re like me. I’m sure everyone was disappointed to see our favorite quarterback, Joe Burrow form the Cincinnati Bengals, lose on Sunday, Jan. 29.

Nonetheless, it shaped up to be an intense and exciting game.

According to CBS Sports there were some unique aspects about this year’s game.

One of these being that this year brothers, Travis and Jason Kelce went head to head against each other. We love a good sibling rivalry.

The cutest part of the Super Bowl celebration was Mama Kelce bringing her sons homemade cookies.

Another is that Andy Reid played against his former team this year.

Lastly, this game involved two Black QBs, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.

Now there is some controversary about the last holding call of the game against the Eagles.

Spoiler alert: the Chiefs won the Super Bowl by three points. Some people are claiming that the call was not necessary and was rigged, which led to the Chiefs win.

Fans are also complaining about the Eagles running the clock and the “low energy” hail mary thrown by Hurts.

On a more brighter note, the Super Bowl commercials were entertaining and creative this year. USA Today made a breakdown about their favorite commericals here.

One particular commercial that took everyone off guard was the Tubi commerical that made it seem like someone had exited out of the game and had everyone screaming and searching for the remote.
