Everyone has those comforting pieces of media that they turn to again and again, whether it be music, books, movies or—in this case—TV shows. In the midst of mostly-bad weather and the lead up to midterm season, I think we can all appreciate some mindless, comforting shows that we can turn to whenever we get a free moment to relax. So, for your next binge watch session, here are some of Her Campus Pitt’s favorite shows to help you unwind.

New Girl

New Girl is my favorite show literally ever. I watch it when I’m happy, when I’m sad, or literally anything in between. I’m not a person who can consistently watch TV well, but I always find myself going back to New Girl for the ways it makes me laugh, just the comforting aura it has, and some of my favorite characters in the entire world!!” — Lauren D., HC Pitt writer & Social Media Chair

Criminal Minds

“I think there’s lots of good character development. The show is also really long, and there’s a lot of variety, so if you want to watch a more light-hearted episode you can find one but there are also a lot of more emotional episodes. It’s great to just throw on in the background or if you want something more involved. Also, Spencer Reid is amazing.” — Alison A., HC Pitt writer

The Great Pottery Throwdown

I’m someone who goes through phases of watching TV multiple hours a day for weeks in a row followed by phases of barely watching TV for months, but this show is something that I always enjoy. I love the hosts and the contests (mostly of the newest seasons, because those are what I’ve watched the most), but I also love getting to see the whole creative process of how these people come up with their art. Also, watching Keith (one of the hosts) tear up over especially touching pieces never fails to make me smile and/or tear up right alongside him.

That 70’s Show

“It’s really funny and I think the characters are really well written. I love the fact that it’s set in the 70’s because it feels like I get to see what being a teenager back then would be like through a comedy lens. And I think Eric Foreman is relatable.” — Grace M., HC Pitt writer

Jersey Shore and Jersey Shore: Family Vacation

“They are both shows that allow me to forget about all the stress going [on] around me and immerse myself into the days of Snooki, JWoww and the rest of the cast as they spend their days clubbing at the Jersey Shore.” — Serena G., HC Pitt President

zumbo’s just desserts

I am partial to a good cooking and/or baking show, especially when I want to watch something brainless, and Zumbo’s is one of my favorites. There’s only 2 seasons available, but the desserts are some of the craziest, most over-complicated things I’ve ever seen, and the contestants are (for the most part) funny, loveable, and extremely talented. Plus, listening to how different things sound in an Australian accent always makes me laugh a little, especially how differently they say “mocha” (a more common word than you might think, when you’re watching this show).
