With Spring Break right around the corner, choosing a last-minute trip can make or break a time for relaxation. Whether it’s traveling to a new country or playing tourist nearby, here are five things to do for Spring Break.
- Go camping
-
Whether you’re in NOVA or staying around Blacksburg, camping is a great way to detach from all of your academic worries and reconnect with nature. Near Blacksburg, you can go camping by the New River or head over to Claytor Lake and spend some time there. Either way, grab some friends, pack a few coolers, and enjoy yourself.
- Catch a flight out of the country
-
Hear me out, there might still be time for a last-minute flight. My personal favorite is StudentUniverse, which has some great offers for students to find a ticket for cheap. On their website, you can find tickets as cheap as $27 all across the country — and tickets outside the U.S. for as low as $150. If you’re desperate for some travel, definitely check it out.
- Play tourist in your own town
-
While it’s easy to tire of your own town, there’s always something to do. If you’re staying in the Blacksburg area, check out the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation for local history; or try a local brewery like Moon Hollow, Rising Silo or Eastern Divide — where they always have a fun event going on.
- Get paid, all-day
-
If you’re looking to make money moves, consider picking up a shift of your hometown job or try something new like dog walking, grocery delivery or freelancing. As someone who enjoys working, this is a great way to keep yourself busy for a few hours before finding time to relax at home for the evening.
- Try an alternative break
-
What’s better than helping your community? Virginia Tech offers a large variety of alternative spring break programs for students to join, ranging in price from $150 to $550. Other organizations, such as Chi Alpha and Habitat for Humanity, offer opportunities for students to help support local and nonlocal communities.
No matter what you have planned — or don’t have planned — here are five things you can do this Spring Break to make the most of your vacation.
