I just got a haircut at the Aveda Salon in East Lansing, and while I was sitting in my room the night before, I kept thinking of all the reasons why it was a great idea.
1. It’s damaged
Wanting long hair can sometimes feel like a reason not to cut your hair, but if in the past it’s been dyed or suffered through a lot of heat damage, it’s probably time to take off a few inches. After getting a fresh haircut, you can always invest in some non-damaging products to keep the styles you want and start to grow longer and healthier hair.
2. A new look
Everyone’s against cutting your hair when going through a crisis. I, however, am going to play the devil’s advocate. The least harmful thing to do when life gets boring is to get a haircut. Sometimes it’s for the better to break out of routine and try something new.
3. It’ll grow back
For me, getting a haircut can get put on hold because I’m worried it might not look exactly the way I want it to. But, being nineteen years old, I remind myself that, in time, it’ll grow back; and I’ll have a lot of opportunities in life to try new looks.
4. Don’t knock it ‘till you try it
I thought about getting bangs for YEARS before I actually committed to them. I ended up loving them and have been getting them cut every time I go. A lot of times we decide we like something or are afraid to try but you’ll never know until you do it. Get the bangs, get the layers, have short hair.
5. You’ve been thinking about it
It’s been on your mind a lot, so just do it. You’ve been coming back to it for a reason, and in addition to the previous reasons, don’t let anything stop you from going for the chop.
Whether a new haircut is for a new outlook or to get rid of some damage, it’ll always find its way back to you in time. You’re young, get the haircut!
