What We Learned About The Eras Tour From Opening Night (& Setlist)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Taylor Swift just kicked off The Eras Tour last week in Glendale, Arizona and you can bet people are talking about it! In case you missed it, Taylor Swift is currently on her 6th tour of her career: The Eras Tour. This tour features songs from all of her 10 albums and it has a hefty 44-song setlist. You read that right; 44 SONGS! The 3+ hour-long concert is broken into ā€œerasā€ where she spends time singing songs from each of her albums. For example, she spends time performing songs from Lover and then moves on to another album.Ā

Surprise Songs:

During the opening night of her show, Taylor Swift also reveals that she’s come up with a fun concept to perform ā€œsurprise songsā€ that are separate from the regular setlist. Each show will have a song that is not on the actual setlist, and it will not be repeated in any of the rest of the concerts. This means that once she sings a surprise song, fans will be able to rule out the song being performed on the rest of the shows.Ā

No Meet & Greets:

One thing many fans look forward to when Taylor Swift goes on tour is that there is a *small* chance to meet her! However, at the Eras Tour, there are no meet & greets happening. One thing to keep in mind is that Taylor Swift is likely doing this to protect her parents and herself from COVID-19, as her mother is still sick. It would be a tragedy if she got sick, and had to cancel several shows on her tour! Plus, she made up for it with a 3+ hour show, so Iā€™ll gladly take that instead since the chances of being chosen to meet her are extremely rare.Ā

Setlist:

To say people were shocked at the number of songs Taylor Swift fit into The Eras Tour concert is an understatement. She previously would perform 2 hour-long shows in her past tours, so it was VERY unexpected. Although, it is fitting since she has a huge amount of songs to choose from and is going to highlight every single one of her albums on this tour.Ā

To be prepared for the setlist so you can know every song, I have rounded up the full list of songs from the opening night show in Glendale, Arizona.Ā

For my fellow Speak Now and Taylor Swift album stansā€¦ all I can say is I feel your pain too. RIP. Personally, I wish there were more songs from the albums, but the setlist is pretty amazing as it is. So far, the surprise songs that have been performed already are “mirrorball,” “this is me trying,” and “State of Grace.”Ā But nonetheless, this is an AMAZING setlist, and I can’t wait to hear it!

If you aren’t able to make it to The Eras Tour, you can stream Taylor Swift on Youtube, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, and more.
