As someone who is currently studying public relations, this is one of the things that is constantly in my search history. While you may not see it, almost every company needs a Public Relations (PR) person in their corner to help them with their brand. That’s where we come in. People who can help shape a brand to be organized and fully engaged with their community.
According to the Public Relations Society of America, “Public Relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.” As we can see, public relations is pretty important for organizations to have. In order for an organization to thrive, they need a positive relationship with the public.
The big question we need to answer: is Indianapolis the place for a PR professional? Indianapolis has a variety of PR agencies one can work or intern at. There are so many different avenues one can take when kickstarting their PR career. Maybe you don’t want to work at a big PR agency. No need to worry about that because Indy has options such as sports teams, nonprofit organizations and so much more.
Indiana may have the common stereotype that there is nothing to do here, but the opportunities one can have with their career is incredible. The Public Relations community is pretty large in Indianapolis. PRSA even has their own Indiana Chapter called PRSA Hoosier where an individual can learn all things PR when being in Indy while expanding their professional network in the field.
Don’t be scared to put your foot in the door, especially in Indianapolis. We all want each other to succeed.
