COLLEGE STATION, Apr. 21, 2023 – Muster is a tradition at Texas A&M held annually to remember the Aggies who have passed. Muster is celebrated at over 300 locations around the world with the largest one held in Reed Arena on the Texas A&M Campus in College Station.
“Texas A&M is an institution built on the idea of community and camaraderie between students.” Lucas Wheeler, Muster Community Relations Coordinator said. It holds the enveloping idea that once a student has stepped foot onto this campus, they are now connected to something much bigger than themselves: the Aggie family.”
The Muster ceremony includes a roll call where names of fallen Aggies are called, and Aggies answer “here” after each name. Additionally, each time a name is called, a candle will be lit. This is to show that the Aggie is present in spirit and will continue to be celebrated even after their passing.
“I see Muster as that final act of celebration. Even when that Aggie has passed on, we strive to make a day that celebrates their life and their accomplishments but most importantly, their Aggie spirit.” Lucas said. “It starts with a ‘Howdy’ and ends with a ‘Here’.”
In the days leading up to Aggie Muster, students have the chance to learn more about these fallen Aggies through the reflection displays that will be set up in the Flag Room. When the day of Aggie Muster arrives, it begins with a flag-raising ceremony. There is then the Reunion Class Barbecue, which gives both the 50th reunion class and students a chance to eat and interact with each other.
