The Do’s and Don’ts of Attending Concerts: A Guide to Concert Etiquette

For as long as concerts have been around, there always has been a certain etiquette to follow during gatherings like these.

“Concert Etiquette” is what ensures that people have the correct behavior at every kind of concert to guarantee safety and fun for everyone, such as the appropriate dress code, if you should bring signs, taking pictures with the flashlights on or off, or even what to expect and how to act at a show based on the music genre.

Unfortunately, ever since concerts have made their post-pandemic comeback, there has been multiple reports from fans having, overall, negative experiences at concerts of artists such as Taylor Swift and Harry Styles, and the lack of Concert Etiquette from most crowds is to blame.

Today we will show you some examples of not-so-unusual cases that have been happening in concerts, in the hope of spreading awareness of how much these actions can cause distress to others, and so that, hopefully, you don’t do them in your next show.

HARRY STYLES: love on tour

Harry’s concerts are known for being the perfect occasion to dress up with different outfits and fun accessories such as cowboy hats and colorful boats. He’s also known for interacting a lot with his crowd, so it is acceptable that a lot of people bring in funny signs for him to read.

During his Love on Tour Los Angeles concert, someone took it too far and tossed skittles in his direction in hopes of catching his attention. As we can imagine, the candies hit him directly in the eye, almost seriously wounding him in the process.

TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR

It’s basically universally known that you should dress up in outfits inspired by lyrics, and even inside jokes between the fandom, for one of Taylor’s concerts. However, unlike Harry, she’s not the type of artist to interact with the crowd, as she is usually busily focused on all the choreographed dance numbers and costume changes. So, chances of her noticing you in the crowd because you are holding a sign are slim to none.

Still, during The Eras Tour, there have been multiple cases of fans bringing them to their concerts, and the only thing that they accomplished was blocking other fans’ views of the stage.

SABRINA CARPENTER: EMAILS I CAN’T SEND TOUR

Since Sabrina Carpenter performs at smaller venues, compared to the stadiums where Harry and Taylor do, it’s easier for her to have conversations and even share stories with audiences during soundcheck and the actual concert.

During one of her Los Angeles shows of her ‘Emails I Can’t Send Tour’, fans caught multiple moments where TikTok Influencers would bother other people in the audience because they were busy talking very loudly amongst each other and even taking flash photography of themselves during the concert (which is a hard no during concerts!).

The 1975: being funny in a foreign language tour

It’s widely known that The 1975’s concerts are always more on the chill side, with not a lot of choreography and simple visuals, which means that most fans can focus on singing and dancing along to the songs.

During one of the band’s concerts at a music festival, a fan decided to sit on a friend’s shoulders to see the show better but ended up completely blocking the view of the entire thing. Although these cases are not completely new, it still is absolutely inappropriate and inconsiderate to others around them.
