There are some places which, if once occupy a special corner in your heart, never leave. They stay with us forever. I have always loved traveling and discovering new destinations. There is so much comfort in realizing that there are innumerable unexplored and breathtaking landscapes surrounding us, waiting to be explored. While there is a thrill in touring and traveling to newer places, there is so much peace in remembering and recalling your memories of the old ones :) And, that is exactly what writing this article has let me do.
From my favorite memories of these places to landmarks one should never miss traveling to, this article serves as a sweet little travel blog for people who want to explore Indian cities/states but don’t know which ones to pick! Bringing to you some of my favorite Indian destinations that you should also consider traveling to on your next vacation!
1. GOA
Well, yes I know what you’re thinking – there’s nothing like Goa! There is so much peace in just laying down at the beach, simply listening to the calm whispers of ocean waves and savoring some yummy seafood and drinks as you rest on your sea bed. It has always been my favorite vacation destination. This Indian state on the West Coast is the epitome of vibrancy. Golden sands, blue waters, the sun shining down on your face—this place would leave you swaying in joy. Definitely recommending Goa for someone who is looking for a travel spot that is both calm and buzzing. Yes! Goa is a perfect blend of peaceful beaches like Baga and Candolim and fun, happening spots like clubs, night markets, and shacks. Day or night, this is a city that never sleeps.
2. LUCKNOW
Pretty, pretty, pretty. If you are like me, someone who constantly craves aesthetics and sceneries that are appealing to the eye, this is the place for you! I remember taking strolls on Lucknow’s streets; it was like stepping into a world of bliss! The magnificence of monuments and structures like Bara Imambara and Rumi Darwaza would leave every traveler in awe. The graciousness of this city resides in its charming alleys! Lucknow is replete with such euphoric heritage sites and markets. Yes, a special emphasis on the markets of Lucknow—these bazaars are like little mirrors of the city. Biryani and kebab junctions at every corner, apparel stores adorned with elegant Lakhnavi Kurtis, and the warm hospitality of the locals—these are what make Lucknow special.
3. GWALIOR
You might have never heard anyone talk about the city as a vacation spot. That is perhaps because it’s not one of the mainstream tourist places in India. But, as I speak from experience, I must state that this should not keep you away from this beautiful city. If you are a history buff, a cultural enthusiast, or someone who is looking for a unique travel experience, Gwalior should definitely be on your list! Full of monuments with intricate architecture and fun markets, this is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh’s Gird region. The Jai Vilas Palace, with its opulent interiors and grandeur, is another iconic landmark that exhibits the rich legacy of the city. From the magnificent Gwalior Fort to the historic Sun Temple – you would enjoy every bit of this city!
4. JAIPUR
Jaipur, the pink city of Rajasthan, is a destination that could transport you into the euphoria of majestic aura and royalty. With bustling streets and markets, Jaipur is definitely a great place if you want to shop for traditional handicrafts and fabrics. Yes, the city is a shopaholic’s dream with its colorful markets! The grandeur of the Hawa Mahal, the intricate design of the City Palace, and the enchanting Amber Fort are some of the many architectural marvels that one could visit here. The city is also known for its vibrant festivals and events, like the Jaipur Literature Festival and the Teej Festival. If you haven’t visited this city yet, Jaipur should definitely be your next must-visit destination!
5. DARJEELING
One of the best memories I will always hold close to my heart would be sipping from a hot cup of Darjeeling tea as I viewed the picturesque hills of Darjeeling from a hotel’s balcony. Darjeeling would leave you in awe. To enjoy the lush greenery and breathe the misty air of this city in West Bengal is undeniably an experience of its own kind. You wander through charming local markets or travel across the city on the cute toy train. The city would never like you bored. Also, if you are someone who wants to be a little adventurous and go hiking, this town is a must-visit for you! The fresh mountain air and stunning views are sure to rejuvenate your mind and soul!
