Instagram Announced A Huge New Feature That’ll Change How You Comment On Posts

Have you ever felt that sometimes it might be easier to get your thoughts across through images versus words? It’s time to shake your shoulders like Shaq, as Instagram just announced that you are now able to post a GIF as a comment. As of May 17, IG users will be able to use this new update.

Step aside clever comments. GIFs are taking over. Everyone can finally drop in GIFs to almost everything on the app. Through this new feature specifically, you’ll be able to comment on a GIF on all feed posts and reels. Just watched a funny reel or want to show some love on a friend’s new post? Take your commenting to the next level when hyping up your friends or even celebrities. The overwhelming excitement and amount of new GIF comments might make you want to back into the bush like Homer Simpson at first. But we’re jumping up and down and clapping like Rachel and Phoebe from Friends.

Whether you pick a You Got It Dude with Full House’s Michelle or a silly SpongeBob one, gifs are a fun way to express yourself. And how it works is simple! Go into the Comment icon on a post or reel you want to express your thoughts on. Then, tap the GIF icon to the right of the text box to access the GIPHY library. Next, select the GIF you want to use to add your comment. A Great Gatsby cheers to you when done.

This cool new setting has already been tested among a small group of creators. You might have already seen some good ones, like Jimmy Fallon’s “Wow…That’s Crazy…” GIF on Pubity’s page. In fact, some followers were able to use the feature during this limited period as well. But as of May 17, Meta has enabled the update’s availability for users globally. All of these GIF files are sourced through GIPHY’s library, an American online database and search engine that allows users to search for and share these short looping videos with no sound.

With this new, fun way to interact with your friends and favorite creators, you can just sit back, relax, drop one into a comment section, and watch the show like the Michael Jackson eating popcorn GIF.
