May is known as the month of brides. For those who are planning the moment for next year or who are already preparing to celebrate this month yet, get to know five unforgettable dresses from some movies and TV series.
Sex and the City (1998)
The eternal Carrie Bradshaw, a character from the television series Sex and the City, played by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, had her wedding dress considered one of the most iconic in cinema. Although Carrie´s wedding didn’t go as planned with Mr. Big (Chris Noth), the dress signed by the British designer Vivienne Westwood increases profit by 20% in the year the film was released.Â
Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding dress is a couture piece that conveys originality, elegance and a touch of boldness, perfectly reflecting the character’s style. Adjusted to the body, it’s a shabby dress with a structured bodice highlighting the silhouette of the protagonist. In addition to the most striking details, such as the long tulle layered skirt, the piece gives a romantic, voluminous look and creates a sense of movement and fluidity. Another highlight that can’t be left aside, is the large fabric flower with an exuberant touch to the bridal costume and the hair fully attached, with veil and a green accessory in feathers, making it even more original.
Runaway Bride (1999)
Another classic of bridal movies, tells the story of Magie Campter (Julia Roberts), a woman who abandon grooms at the altar. She decides to run away again, in her fourth marriage but is pursued by a journalist, Ike (Richard Gere), who wants to find out the reason behind her escapes. What draws the most attention besides the leakege, are the dresses in each “wedding” that took place during the film.
The fourth model with which the actress appears is the classic for a bride that presents a romantic and traditional style. The bodice of the dress is adjusted to the body with trim on the shoulders, rich in details in lace. It has delicate details such as lace or embroidery, adding a dose of sophistication. The skirt of the dress is voluminous and fluttering, giving it a fairytale appearance. One notices also, the additional embellishments on the long and exuberant tail of the dress with pearls, crystals, bows adding a touch of glamour.
The bridal bouquet draws a lot of attention for being quite flashy and charming and composed of a variety of fresh and colorful flowers, in addition to the ornaments with satin bows and ribbons, perfectly complementing the look of the bride.
Funny face (1957)
Still speaking about classics, we have the debut of the iconic Audrey Hepburn. In Cinderella in Paris, directed by Stanley Donen, Hepburn plays Jo Stockton, an intellectual librarian who is discovered by a renowned fashion photographer named Dick Avery (Fred Astaire). He invites her to become a model for a fashion magazine. As Jo plunges into the world of Parisian fashion, she falls in love with Dick and during the plot, the marriage takes place between them. She wears a dress that has left a significant mark on both film and fashion.
Designed by Hubert de Givenchy, the model is belted, with evasive skirt ballerina style, reaching the height of the shins, presenting delicate lace, subtle embroidery giving a touch of romanticism to the look. The ballerina style skirt brings a sense of lightness and fluidity, providing movement to the character. This dress won the hearts of brides of that time and still serves as inspiration for many designers.
The film is a timeless classic known for its elegant and romantic aesthetic, capturing the magic and charming atmosphere of Paris, as well as showcasing the authenticity and balance between art and the fashion industry.
Fifty Shades Freed (2018)
The last film in the trilogy, released in 2018, Fifty Shades Freed gave the talk in Anastasia Steele’s (Dakota Johnson) dress at her wedding to Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). The model signed by the Filipino designer Monique Lhuillier was tailor-made for the actress.Â
The dress is made of delicate lace and has a classic and timeless style. With shoulder-to-shoulder neckline and mermaid silhouette, the model brings a romantic style, but the differential is the illusion neckline in the back, with plenty of transparency and a sensual touch thanks to the lace and the finish with buttons behind. Attention is drawn to the details in crystals and pearls that are embroidered along the dress, adding a subtle shine and a sense of luxury. This dress model is a good bet for those who prefer a more contemporary style, embroidered with delicate shine and a silk tulle skirt, always valuing the silhouette.
Complementing the look, Anastasia wears a tulle veil that falls delicately down her shoulders. Her hair had a simple hairstyle, but with a touch of modern, highlighting her natural beauty, with a bright tiara as an accessory.
Mamma Mia (2008)
In the movie Mamma Mia!, the wedding dress is worn by Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried). For those who don’t remember, the film is packed with songs by the famous pop music group ABBA, creating a lively and entertaining environment as the romantic plot unfolds.
The dress model is perfectly suited to the Mediterranean setting of the Greek island, being one of the choices for brides who are inspired to get married on the beach, or somewhere more paradisiacal, but nothing that takes away the charming and romantic air. It’s a long dress, with a flowing and voluminous skirt, which seems to be made of light and flowing fabric.
The upper part of the dress is usually adjusted to the body, in a “V” shape highlighting the figure of the protagonist. In addition to the super delicate lace, blue crystals that give shine and elegance to the piece and the bow at the waist that makes the look even more delicate. To complete the look, Sophie wears a tulle veil, with the hairstyle loose and over the shoulders there are some flowers that give a very subtle charm.
