As the school year comes to a close, it is easy to say that the freshman in college experience is like no other. Moving away from home, meeting new people, adjusting to college classes, and doing things yourself can be challenging. Here’s a playlist that puts all the emotions and what you live through in your first year of college into one place:

  1. You’re On Your Own, Kid – Taylor Swift

It’s true, you’re on your own, kid. One of the biggest factors of being a college freshman is being on your own, which for some, could be the first time. Summer went away and you transitioned into a whole new life, and Taylor Swift describes it perfectly.

  1. Getting Older – Billie Eilish

Inevitably, you are getting older and starting to do things by yourself. Growing up isn’t always easy, especially when you deal with the effects in college. Billie Eilish shows us the bitter parts of aging, but also how growing up makes us realize things about ourselves and the anticipation of our future.

  1. Rollercoaster – Bleachers

College is truly a rollercoaster from beginning to end. But, it can be exciting. The upbeat song by Bleachers makes us feel like letting loose and having fun while looking back at the things we went through. Whether it is about growth, love, or moving away to college, life is a rollercoaster.

  1. New Romantics – Taylor Swift

Another Taylor Swift song on this playlist is a must. Whether it is getting ready to go out with your friends or having a solo dance party, New Romantics is perfect for romanticizing your independence and having fun in college. It is perfect for falling in love with college life as well as discovering new romances and friendships… The best people in life are free!

  1. Last Friday Night – Katy Perry

A college freshman playlist would not be complete without this classic Katy Perry song. Whether there’s glitter all over the room or pink flamingos in the pool, you can play this song at any social event and know that last Friday night ruled. Katy Perry shows us how fun it can be to let loose and enjoy the nightlife.

  1. Ribs – Lorde

Like many of Lorde’s songs, she brings us a euphoric coming-of-age feeling, which is exactly how being in college for the first time can feel. Ribs allow us to embrace the excitement of our youth but also how it feels so scary getting old. Lorde gives us an ode to the memories of old friendships while inspiring us to cherish the new ones.

  1. Everybody Wants To Rule The World – Tears For Fears

Any Tears For Fears song is timeless, especially this one. Entering college can often give us the mindset of “you only live once” as we yearn for the opportunity to finally be an adult. Having this independence makes us feel unstoppable like we can rule the world. Welcome to your college life, there’s no turning back to the person you used to be.

  1. 22 (Taylor’s Version) – Taylor Swift

Being a freshman in college often makes us feel happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time. This is another Taylor Swift song that encapsulates our ecstatic youth by making us feel like we’re 22. Whether you feel like having a night of dressing up like hipsters or making fun of your exes, 22 is a perfect, fun song to blast with your friends.

  1. Kilby Girl – The Backseat Lovers

I heard that she was 19… like many college freshmen are. The beloved Backseat Lovers give us the perfect song to sing (and shout) along to and create the best, lasting memories.

  1. my future – Billie Eilish

To close this playlist, Billie Eilish again shows us how to be in love with our futures. A lot of college students, especially freshmen, don’t know what they truly want to study and pursue in the future. This soothing melody grounds us when we feel the weight of the world the most while reminding us that the creation of our futures starts with us.
